New Story Updates/Bug Fix

08 Sep

Fixed

  • One of our slave database was out of sync with the master causing some new stories/chapters randomly showing not found errors. This should have been caught by our monitoring software and we are working on a patch to make sure it does not happen in the future.

To Whom It may concern…I had two friends who saw their stories, posted last evening, on the Fanfiction website, vaporize..in one case, the story was up long enough for me to review, but the “vaporzation” appears to have occurred about 6-7 pm (18.00-19.00) pacific time…

is there any way that authors who experienced this can be advised to repost so that it doesn’t happen again??

    Please advise!!!

This is related to the topic but not exclusively the topic… My username doesn’t show up when you search for it, and I’m afraid nobody can see my stories to review or read them…
      HELPPP!

What about stories that say there has been an update, but when you click on the story to read the update, it isn’t there? This is happening on the Man from UNCLE and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea pages.

Would this bug or its fix have anything to do with the fact that the story I just posted the first chapter of (“Teana’s Travels Book 8: Break the Cycle”) does not have the Disclaimers and character data that I put above the “-BOOK START-” bit or the tidbits posted after the “-CHAPTER END-” bit?

Reviewing seems to be bugged at the moment. I entered a review, got a pop-up message on hitting submit but didn’t quite get a chance to read it. The Text box with the review stayed filled in, so I wasn’t sure it had actually submitted. Tried to submit again and it says I already submitted the review. However, several hours later I look for it and I can’t find it.

It also isn’t in my review history and trying to resubmit the review it says I’ve already submitted it.

Sorta-fixed it. …I think. I had to jump through hoops to do it, but I THINK that I may have possibly perhaps might have fixed the issue. Maybe.

The fanfiction.net mobile Site has a error in the community section. When I change the word filter to >1000 the Site says that the community archive it’s empty. The happens in all community archives of fanfiction.net.

Please fix that problem soon. Thanks for your help.

When are you going to give us the ‘OC’ option for story characters?! There are so many OC stories on the site, it would be so much easier for people to find what they want to read if we had the option of OC in the character lists!

Or pass over the OC category entirely. I’m not saying I have a problem with OCs… I write them myself, but some people are tired of finding out that stories have an OC in them after they’ve clicked on it, or seeing Legolas/OC in the summary.

I think that’s a bad idea. Authors who write fanfiction may not want to read/write a story containing OC’s. Just include OC in your story summary. That way people who search OC in the search engine know your story has OC’s because it’s included in the summary.

Except it has worked well in the fandoms that have the OC tag. There is a lot less complaints from people who don’t want to read/write stories with with OC’s in these fandoms too.

Just ask for it in your specific fandoms where you need them – that should do.

I have in the past and I’ve asked for fandoms I don’t write for simply because I know they need them.

I completely agree with you, they have a list for all the other characters why not have a option for OCs. Sometimes I have trouble looking for stories when I want to read an OC cause not everyone puts OC in the description. It really wouldn’t make a difference because its just like adding another character to the list of the movie or whatever you are looking at. If you want to look for one with OC click the option, if you don’t want to read that kind of story don’t click the option. I’m not sure why everyone below your comment is confused by that or keeps saying people will end up reading an oc story even if they don’t click that option.

I’ve sent e-mails before, but here are some of the fandoms I feel could use the OC tag.

Avatar: Last Airbender, Bleach, Digimon, Gundam Wing/AC, Fruit Basket, Fullmetal Alchemist, Gauken Alice, Hetalia – Axis Powers, Glee, Horseland, Hunger Games, Inuyasha, Kingdom Hearts, Lord of the Rings, My Little Pony, Naruto, Neopets, One Piece, Ouran High School Host Club, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Shugo Chara, Sonic the Hedgehog, Teen Titans, Total Drama Series, Twilight, Vampire Knight, Winx Club, X-Men: Evolution, Xiaolin Showdown, Yu-Gi-Oh, Yumeiro Patissiere, Yu Yu Hakusho

I haven’t written in all of the fandoms and some I never plan on writing in. However, I also know that using OCs are popular in these fandoms and some have a lot of fanfics in them.

They also should add ‘male OC’ and ‘Female OC’ instead of just ‘OC’ there ae fandoms where that gender difference makes a difference if someone wants to read the story or not.

They also should change the login features, because typing in your full email is some times annoying, it is faster if we can just enter in our usernames.

@cyber5555, I agree with you on that. I don’t like having to use the same email that I use for facebook as a username because it has lead to me in the past typing in my facebook password in to Fanfiction. However, we wouldn’t be able to change our usernames which is the big downside to that.

that is ture, well I guess I will have to use my email address and that someday the login page might change for the better

I’m concerned that this would make it easier for some accounts to be hacked. People don’t know your e-mail address, they do know your user name,

There also seems to be a problem with new stories not being indexed. They are published on the site, just not findable in the search engine:
