Internal System Update

23 Feb

Over the past 6 hours we have been pushing out a massive set of internal software upgrades to resolve an elusive bug which caused some stories published prior to 2008 to display empty content.

For those curious, the bug was caused by an obscure change in an OS software library which caused different version of the OS to behave differently causing major headaches for our bug tracking team.

Due to the scale of the update, we are currently performing site-wide internal testing to make sure no secondary bugs are introduced.

Note: Image covers were effected during the upgrade window but has since returned to normal operational status.

Thanks for the update – my covers are back. Life is good. (For the moment.)

Interrupted service is much less frustrating when we’re included in the loop. Thank you.

I seem to be having a problem with my account. None of the icons on the left of my account screen ( Account, Publish, Private messaging, Image Manager etc) work. No amount of clicking or refreshing the page would help. Furthermore, the page is not properly displayed. However, if i want to read a story or browse the library, all works perfectly.

I would be really grateful if you could help me as i can’t upload any of my stories due to this issue, infact, i can’t do anything with my account in the present condition. Is it because of the Internal System Update???

This might be a silly question, but do you have noscript installed? I ask because I had that exact same problem and it was because I needed to allow aspnetcdn.com (and possibly netdna-cdn.com). Everything was fine after I re-allowed those. (They were allowed in the past, but recently became blocked again, so it caught me out.)

I’ve been unable to publish on the site since yesterday. It let me upload my document, and fill in all the information, but when I hit the button to publish, I just get a blank screen and nothing happens.

Sorry, but I’ve been reporting this story (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8289144/1/Why_so_serious_questioners) since last year and you have not deleted it. It is blatantly in violation to the interactive rule, the author has refused to delete and claims they will never stop because the site admins won’t delete his story and I’m frankly tired of doing reports for nothing.
Why are you not enforcing your own rules? It is because of this that you have so many rule-breaking stories here.

I don’t know about fanfiction, but I’ve happily gone on a reporting spree on this person.

Thanks for letting us know! Is this part of the major update you were planning since January?

I’m having a problem uploading a 2010 Office .docx. I’m receiving an error that the file format is invalid.

Actually, the exact error is: please select a compatible file from your computer.

@CodeAliasWave, it’s working fine for me, for a Word 2002 document. I tried both the FIle Upload option, and the Copy and Paste, and both times the file uploaded.

If you haven’t already tried Copy and Paste, maybe that will work if the problem is with Office 2010.
