Email Alerts Return to Normal Operational Status

Email alerts have returned to normal operational status and all new alerts should be delivered without issue. Note that old alerts that were dropped or undelivered by email providers will not be retried.

We will continue to monitor the email stream for anomalies over the next few days to make sure everything has returned to 100% health.

      Yup. I agree with everyone. This guy’s a jerk, but you know what’s funny? He NEVER replies to the people who point out his shortcomings. Therefore, as I said in the last blog post, he’s trolling and should be ignored. He isn’t worth anyone’s time.

        If you’ve seen his (Holmes’) past posts, it’s understandable that some people are getting annoyed when Xing and his staff are working to fix the bugs and such on a site that THEY are paying for to keep running FOR the masses. Xing doesn’t have to, but he does and I can’t be any more thankful since I’ve made some awesome friends on FFN I probably wouldn’t have known five years ago. So seeing Holmes continuously post impolite remarks to the people who even gave us a website to post fanfics in the first place is pretty disheartening.

        Sure I’ve seen other people complain, and they are very much entitled to since the fixes are trial and error, but to leave a negative comment EVERY TIME – even when some of the problems have been solved – sounds like he’s just complaining for the sake of complaining. He doesn’t even string more than two sentences together for his complaints, which are also quite vague. I doubt Xing and his staff can help optimize his future experiences on FFN if all he ever says is “Stop being dumb and screwing up the site.”

        There’s a difference between an actual complaint and just being annoying. I still stand by that he’s trolling unless he gives me reason that he actual isn’t.

      I seem to remember that they are the coders and we (most likely) know nothing about how they code. You have been extremely rude to these people who try hard to do nothing but make everything better.

      You are very much a coward.

    Thank you for fixing it! But even more so, thank you for keeping us updated. I can’t count how many times something happened on a website that wasn’t supposed to (including FF&FP) and then I freak out, thinking that something’s wrong with my computer (again). You people are awesome in your generosity to keep us up to date with what’s wrong, what’s being fixed or improved, etc. You don’t receive enough gratitude, I think, from us on these websites. But thank you so much for having such dedication and effort for keeping these sites functioning as greatly as possible. And I think I speak for thousands of people who opt to remain silent.

    Thanks for the fix! Started to get my alerts again. Though, I do have a problem, but not related to the email issue.

    I don’t know if it’s the same for anyone else, but links on my profile won’t work. I received a PM letting me know, and when I tried clicking, it had that pop-up screen where you’re supposed to be directed to another site. It looks all fine, but when it’s clicked on, it tries to re-route the FFN, adding the link’s url to the end of the FFN url. Anyone else have the same problem?

    Thank you for all the hard work you’ve done to update this site and fixing all the problems by the way! I really appreciate it, and the site is looking wonderful.

    So I’m guessing the next roll out will be the search by four characters?

    So far haven’t gotten one for a story that I know was updated hopefully will soon because I do get email alerts I just don’t get all of them. I’m using Verizon through Microsoft Outlook.

    Does anyone know how to delete chapters from the DocX inbox? Mine is cluttered with stuff I’ve received, reviewed and returned to sender.

    The changes made are all horrible I actually got a fright when I brought up the website, I closed it and opened it again thinking it was some kind of mistake. The whole new theme Fanfiction has is dull and unappealing, the selections at the top are now less convenient to access and the search option was better the way it was. The new method of arranging your favourite stories is annoying, before you just clicked once and it arranged how you wanted. That was a really handy feature that helped me to find the story or author I wanted quickly. I don’t know if the increased size of the selection boxes was meant to be helpful but it isn’t, its unnecessary and unpleasant to look at. The log in screen looks bleak and dull, it actually puts me off accessing my account. The only good thing is that you now have four character selection slots when posting a story. Please put the site back the way it was, the way everyone liked it.

      Therefore, not everyone hated it, and so far from what I saw, there seemed to be more people liking it than those who hated it. Just saying.

      As someone else has pointed out you do not speak for the other people on the site. I personally like the new theme, particularly since I can select a font that I prefer.

      I also prefer the new method of arranging favorites as it isn’t anywhere near as messy and don’t mind having to make a few more clicks to get the information I want because I can get the information in a more refined manor. The method is still quick as well, even though you have to (oh dear), spend a few more seconds to get what you want.

      No matter how much you complain about either one of these changes the site admins are not going to change them back simply because you’re upset. Most of the members are fine with the changes.

    I have to admit, the changes were a bit of a shock to me at first, but the more I’ve used the site since the changes, the more I like them. Now, if they can just restore the ability to sort traffic stats by visitors, etc., then I’ll be happy. :)

    Just a comment (great job fixing it by th way!)
    My PMs are all spaced out… when pressing the ‘enter’ button, it appears that a space appears from what i wrote. I wanted it all grouped together but on separate lines… Let me see…
    So instead of this:
    ds sd ds ds ds dfasd
    ds ddsfsdfsdfsd
    sd fsdfdsfsdfsd

    It looks like this:
    ds sd ds ds ds dfasd

    ds ddsfsdfsdfsd

    sd fsdfdsfsdfsd

    …Can you look into it? It could be just me or something…

      Have you tired holding the shift key down and then pressed enter? I’m not on a computer at the moment so I can’t test this, sorry.

        the thing is that it doesnt turn out like that until after we send it. :/ it looks fine beforehand, but after i send it for some reason the format turns into that.

    I’m still not receiving review notices by e-mail to my personal domain hosted on Dreamhost. I have bot -at- fanfiction -dot- com white-listed with the highest priority and still receive notice of updated chapters.

    I, too, share classictrekker’s sentiment. I miss the ability to sort my stories by traffic, reviews, etc.

      Following up on my own post, I did finally receive e-mails for my last review, favorite, follow, but they were delayed by about an hour and a half. Hopefully, this means everything will be back to normal soon.

      If I haven’t said it already on this topic, thanks for your efforts to promptly address this.

    I reiterate a few problems with the pop-up box via the Follow/Favorite button:

    * with the dark background, the text in the Follow/Favorite pop-up is white (thus, illegible)
    * the Follow – Story checkbox is always checked (it should be unchecked, like the rest)

    This has probably been brought up before, but do you think there’s any way you could add a font size change option for the rest of the site as well, not just for the stories? It’s not horribly debilitating (for me, at least), but it’s just a little smaller than I’m comfortable reading, especially when I’m browsing through an archive or someone’s profile. I’d really appreciate the option to make the text bigger.

    Thanks for all the hard work on the site lately! I’m loving the changes :)

    Does anyone know how to report a problem?
    Because a lot of single words around the site has been turned into links, which leads to datingsites, gaming sites and stuff like that…
    And it’s really a bother, when trying to read, or when surfing around the site, it becomes really distracting >.<
    So, if anyone know how to get this fixed, I'd be very grateful! :)

      @Christine – sounds like you might have picked up some malware. I got the same thing on TwoP and also on a reputable online news site, but only on one particular pc. It stopped after I put the machine in for unrelated repairs, and they cleaned up the malware on it while they were at it.

    Forum replies with quotes in them have ‘blockquote class=’quoteStyle” in the email alert. Looks awkward. Previously, quoting just misplaced the next line, so the start of the next line was glued to the quote without a space.

      If you read the top of this blog you’ll notice that they’re going to continue to monitor the email stream, which means it sounds like it may not be completely fixed for some people. The point is, they’re aware of it, and working on it to the best of their ability. Just be patient, you’ll get them soon enough.

    I’m still not getting any alerts for anything — not my reviews, PMs or alerts. I checked my junk mail folder to see if they went there and they aren’t. I have to either log in to my ff.net page or go to my author page to see if I have reviews. Please fix this!!!!!

    I have an apple or iCloud or Mac or whatever you want to call it, account too and I still haven’t received any of my usual alerts from my PM, reviews, alerts of new stories or chapters at all! I’d hate to use another email account since I’ve used the same one from the beginning. Can someone please fix this problem?!?!?!
