16 Aug

Lots of small changes with primary focus on the mobile site.

Changes

  • Mobile Just In page sync: Top 100 categories filter.
  • Mobile Listing page sync: 4 character selection + new without/negative filters.
  • Many other small changes and fixes.

Notes:

  • We have removed support for Nintendo DS(ixl) browsers a while back so please use a more powerful device to visit the site. The following browsers are no longer on our mobile support list: Blackberry, Nintendo DS(ixl).
  • Note to Kindle/Nook users. These two systems usually come with very out-dated browsers. Use the appropriate store to download Google’s Chrome Browser.
  • For the visually impaired, we highly recommend the free NVDA screen reader and we will try to support it to the best of our abilities.

UPDATE: For those still using flip phones or phones that are not based off Android of iOS, you must download use Opera Mini (m.opera.com).

-sigh- I just want to be able to read fanfiction at home where I have no computer without having to sift through thousands of stories I’m not interested in….

Though I find it absolutely ridiculous, I figured out a way to make searching with the filters easy. Since using only two Character boxes gets you ten thousand other fics now, this way – hopefully – will narrow the search.

When searching for a specific story EX – Subject: Naruto. I want a SasuNaru or SasuSaku story ONLY. With the characters A B C and D, just enter only the names of the characters you want. EX – A: Sasuke, B: Sasuke, C: Naruto, D: Naruto. Same with Sasuke and Sakura. Just enter their names and fics ONLY ABOUT THEM will appear.

This process will work for any and all specific character fic searches. I tested it. It works that way.

But still, Fanfiction needs to return fanfiction back to the way it used to be. Searching for a fic shouldn’t be rocket science. TURN IT BACK!!!!!!

What the heck is going on? Now I just have to search for the stories I want to read because reading them the old-fashioned way isn’t available. What the heck sort of joke is this? It’s absurd is what it is.

With the removal of the ad blocker, some users are going to be frustrated, especially those using Internet Explorer, as there is no built in ad blocker as there is with Chrome. If you have IE10 (this might work with older versions, but I have only tested it on 10), you can easily block most ads by going to your IE desktop browser and selecting “Tracking Protection…” under “Tools.” From there select the link that states “Get a Tracking Protection List Online….” This will lead you to “iegallery.com” where you can choose from a list of good sources which will block most ads for you. I am currently using “Abine,” and it is working well.

I hope this made some sense and that it will be useful to IE users.

That works with 9 as well.
The “apply filters” button doesn’t though, at least not for me.

I’ve noticed a problem with the character filter on the story-creating end: it puts them in random order, not the order of importance I entered, or even alphabetical. For example, when I enter in a dad, a stepmother, a daughter, and a friend, and the dad and stepmother are the protagonists, it displays the daughter first… and her name starts with a “T,” while the stepmom’s starts with “A” and Daddy’s starts with “K.” Was this feature intended to be random? If so, I think it would work much better if it displayed characters in the order we enter them in.

If it’s going to work like it is now, I join everyone else in saying we should just go back to the two-character filter, because it was less confusing. And yes, I am using Chrome instead of Internet Explorer or something.

It depends on the fandom. Some fandoms have the ability to stick, others do not. So it would help the site admins out if you said which fandom wasn’t sticking.

you guys really need to update you search browser for your website so that those of us who utterly despise certain characters don’t have to put up with the bullshit of trying to find a pairing we like, i for one am a huge fan of Naruto and Bleach but i despise all gay people and gay pairing so your dumb asses need to fucking this shit, hell i despise Hinata Hyuga so quite frankly you little bitches on this god damn site administration need to make it so we the reader don’t have to deal with or tolerate all the faggots who write on pathetic site, fix the fucking Character selection browser so those of us who only want straight pairing of certain people can find them without all faggots and other useless character that no one gives a flying fuck about.

i am highly tempted to fuck your entire site up because you dumb ass bitches don’t know what the fuck your doing!

I do not believe such language was at all called for. If you don’t like Hinata, just put her in the “except character” filter box, which will eliminate all stories with her listed. That’s not saying she won’t be in the stories that remain, but she won’t be prominent. I do not like yaoi or yuri either, but I’m not going to throw a huge fit just because so many other people do. Everyone is entitled to their own tastes. You are also a fan of the two biggest anime fandoms on this site. I’m personally a fan of both the original Yu-Gi-Oh series and Dragon Ball Z, which have less fanfics in comparison to Naruto and Bleach, but still have plenty in my personal opinion. There is yaoi in both of those fandoms, but I simply do not read it. Many, MANY people have already brought up that they want to be able to filter out slash pairings, but that would be a very tricky thing to implement. Many of the people who have contributed to the archives are no longer active on the site, and are therefore unavailable to tag their stories as containing slash pairings. I’ve gotten over the prolific same-sex romances. They don’t interest me so I pay them little mind, even if I do come upon one by accident. I’m guessing that you happened upon some untagged fanfics involving characters you would never have imagined doing what they did in those particular stories. That happened to one of my friends once and she now gives the main Harry Potter archive a wide berth. I would simply suggest putting Romance in the “except genre” dropdown menu as well as excluding Hinata. That would help your problem considerably. I hope the next time you post, you are calmer and write more civilly.

…I don’t see why there’s so many complaints about the filters being upgraded. Albeit, I don’t read as much as I used to, but my sister reads all the times on her mobile and she was pretty ecstatic about it popping up the other day. If it’s making it so much harder on people to find the characters or whatever they want to read about, then talk to the writers. If they spam the 4 character tags (or whatever you wish to call them) then send them a civilized PM or review to either take the tag off or explain where that character comes in because you don’t want to waste your time on the story when the character (or couple or whatever) only pops in a supporting role. Personally, as a writer, I wouldn’t have a problem with people telling me that and despite what people think, sending a writer a negative review or complaint through PM is NOT a bad thing if you do it in a polite and calm manner. It would probably even prove to solve the problem quicker than making the admins take the feature away and hurting the ones who actually enjoy it. I guarantee that if you fiddle with it for a while and find the new filters that suit your preferences, then you’ll come to love it as my sister has (and before you ask, it took her a while to figure out how to use it to her liking, but she did as I just said and found stories that she’s never even read before instead of the ones that she always had a problem with popping up).

And what is the big deal about the complaints for the rounded amount of stories in a category? I don’t get why you would take the time to complain about that one little detail. It wouldn’t matter if the category I was interested in said it had 875,394 or 37K stories, I know there are stories in it and I’m going to check it out regardless or whether the number is “accurate”. If you’re actually confused about what the K means then look it up. I’m pretty sure FF isn’t the first site to implement this kind of feature (if you would even call it that). If you can’t find it with Google, then ASK someone who might understand it. I’ve come to learn that PMing other people on FF often gets you a reply and I’ve seen others explain things on here too.

I just think you people should stop whining about little features that you don’t like because it’s different from what you’re spoiled to (yes, spoiled, and even I fall into that category) and start complaining about more important stuff. Like if there’s a real glitch with the website that won’t let you on it or access some feature; for instance, I’ve seen some legitimate problems about the filter buttons being merged together and not working properly (or something like that), and that complaint has actually been fixed for some people because my sister wouldn’t be able to use it if it hadn’t been. Don’t complain that they don’t support some device because those devices have sorry browsers on them; find another alternative, even it means going to your local library, asking to use one of the computers, and being subjected to a time limit on your reading. Reading fanfiction all day isn’t good for you anyway.

And if you have an idea, don’t get all offended when it isn’t immediately implemented to the website. I would personally LOVE a filter that would exclude all “slash” stories from my searches or equally allow you to find those couplings on a whim, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to pout and complain about all the other things they updated on when it doesn’t happen. Obviously, the admins listen to our ideas because some of them have been added to the website, including the advanced filters and additional character tags that most of you complain so much about.

I’m sorry if someone reading this gets offended because one of these “problems” is something you find very important, but after going through three pages of comments and finding pretty much the same mundane complaints repeated over and over again, I felt like something needed to be said about it. Not all of us find all these “terrible” updates they’ve been doing to be as terrible as the rest of you seem to.

      08/20/2013 at 12:15 pm

I really don’t see why you would comment on any of this if you haven’t even tried the filters yet yourself and simply base your reply on whatever your sister, whoever she may be, has or hasn’t experienced when reading fanfic.

      • LeaderPinhead

        08/20/2013 at 4:07 pm

Why can’t I comment on them? I may never have used them beyond sorting stories that are completed or most reviewed, but my sister uses them liberally for things like the characters in the story, when they were published/updated, length, genre, and pretty much all the other filters. She’s even figured out ways to omit or find her favorite couples by using the new “without” filter. We discussed the new features, and she agreed to allow me to put her experience in my previous comment because, as I said, she uses her phone to read fanfiction the majority of the time while I use my computer, which is just all around easier to post something like this. It still doesn’t change the fact that not everyone is as upset about the filters as all the comments I’ve seen or the option I gave them to play around with the filters or get the extra character tags taken off.

      08/20/2013 at 1:20 pm

Whether you use the filters or not it is good advice.

The issue with the site admins rounding up the numbers comes down to the fact seeing the number increase was how people were able to tell there was a new story in certain fandoms. Now you can only do it in fandoms below a thousand hit count. There are quite a few above the thousand mark that had peak popularity times and now have stagnant growth.

      • LeaderPinhead

        08/20/2013 at 4:18 pm

Ah. See I didn’t know people actually used the numbers beside the fandoms to track new stories. Now I can somewhat understand why some people would be upset by them rounding the numbers. But can’t they use the filters to find stories that might have been just published? That was introduced around the first time the filters got an update, and I did use that filter once or twice and found it to be pretty useful. I mean, in a really big fandom it might be a little more difficult, but that’s when you can apply the other filters.

I don’t know. I just don’t see why people have to complain about every little update they make within a few hours of it being made. It just doesn’t seem like they take the time to experiment with it.

even then it shouldn’t be too much of an issue to just check fandom weekly for new updates, I sort through 2400 naruto stories a week and bookmark 70-80 of them. these stagnant fandoms are a non issue

I keep a loose eye on about 3 fandoms that are dead. And it’s not a matter of filtering to find new ones. It’s more a case of you’re lucky to see two new stories within a year, the first page reaches back to 2009, and the minute handful of fics within can be easily tracked with the follow feature. And I know I’m not the only one who tracks like that. The more precise numbers gave writers in those categories more traffic too, I’m certain.

Perhaps a follow category feature is in the works? I’d use it.

Speaking of the follow feature, I stubbornly refused to have anything to do with it for a long, long time, and only recently began to put it to use. And it’s great. Simple, but nice. I’ve cleaned some of my bookmarks out since. :)

Anyways. It’s nice to see someone who enjoys the new stuff too, even by proxy. Reading nothing but complaints in here is a bit discouraging, even as someone who isn’t part of the staff or anything. I enjoy seeing the more constructive discussions: the “Could be better, maybe something like this” comments are one of the main reasons I frequent the blog.

To be fair, we’re a pretty big group of readers and writers, and that means we’re exceptionally good at iterating our complaints. Heh.

        08/21/2013 at 6:19 am

Pretty much it runs down to the fact these fandoms don’t update enough to warrant checking back daily. Instead people check back weekly or even monthly. This means the just in section becomes useless for said fandoms. Nine times out of ten you won’t get squat.

And I have no doubt he or she will follow up with endless variations on the same complaint. Assuming the admins are keeping score of massive dummy spits, they’re probably not counting multiple ones from the same posters. So, Robert, I’m afraid you are probably wasting time, effort and vocabulary on what I suspect is a lost cause.

It would help the devs a lot if, instead of complaining and posting walls of text that nobody reads, you could provide this:

    - Computer type (as in, PC / laptop / mobile)
    - OS, version, bits (as in, Windows 7 SP1 64bits)
    - Browser, version (as in, Google Chrome, 30.0.1599.10 dev)
    - Complementary software (for people with disabilities – these sometimes modify a website’s content, or the website must provide with special code that this software uses to render it for the impaired person; provide the download link for the version you are using)
    - Detailed bug description, and how to reproduce it

Really wish the default sorting would go back to Alphabetical. Who cares how many stories have been written for something if you’re not a fan of the series? It just makes it harder to find what you’re looking for how it is now.
Still also waiting for some negitive Series filtering, that way I can look up all the crossovers for my favorite series *EXCEPT* stuff that’s MLP crossovers!

    • yemi hikari

      08/20/2013 at 1:33 pm

The site admins stated before they launched the filter that the character filter system was for labeling the main characters and not the pairings in the first place.

    • cmcwiki

      08/20/2013 at 1:48 pm

I agree with Yemi, the character filters are meant to be used for the primary protagonist, Supporting protagonist, primary Antagonist, supporting antagonist, or similar formulas. A good example of this is the bleach/code Geass xover Soul Chess by Draconichero21. Filter a Is Lelouch Lamperouge, while filter B is sosuke Aizen. Note that these characters are not used in a romantic setting but instead as lead protagonist and lead antagonist.

The pairings idea only works if they are the main focus of the story, otherwise the authors have incorrectly used the filters.

but here is the thing, they have no right to keep disabled people or even children from being on this site and the funny thing is if they tried i know several families that would do everything in their power to complete destroy this site or have it shut down for the rest of eternity.

They’re not trying to keep disabled people from using the site. The blog even makes it clear they’re trying to work with those who are visibly impaired.

As for keeping children from using the site by no longer allowing compatibility with the 3DS… if the child was using the 3DS to use the site then did they have actual permission from their parents to be using said site? If they had permission to use the site why aren’t they using the family computer?

      • nonnie

        08/21/2013 at 9:01 pm

        @yemi
“If they had permission to use the site why aren’t they using the family computer?”
Not everybody has a computer, yemi. They’re costly things. Browsing with a 3DS/tablet/smartphone on places where there’s free wi-fi is way cheaper.

As for permission from parents, what are you even talking about? Ffnet has never cared about the age of readers (thank goodness!), only about that of its registered users. It’s not ffnet’s place to police children’s activities instead of their parents, and ffnet never claimed it was. What point are you trying to make there?

      • yemi hikari

        09/23/2013 at 3:59 pm

@ nonnie – I am fully aware of the fact that computers are the more costly device. The majority of households though do in fact have a computer in their household. You just have to look at the United States census to see that. I’m also fully aware that tablets and smart phones are the options people go for if they can’t afford the option of a computer.

Note here that I didn’t bring up free-wifi or the 3DS. Why? First… a laptop can also be used at a free-wifi spot and some families do in fact have their family computer be a laptop because you can get them at good prices and because it means they can cut off wi-fi in their homes and take it as the adult to the free wi-fi spot if they really need net.

I’ve also made it clear somewhere else on this entry that a 3DS is not a practical option. The browser is far from the best and is a pain to use. It only costs a hundred dollars LESS then a computer and in the long run if you’re having to cut back because of cost a tablet or smart phone is your best choice, not the gaming system. So that should tell you exactly whose using the 3DS typically in most cases.

I also love how people bring up “it’s the job of the parents to police their kids”. When it comes to MA material they try blaming parents for not policing their kids better when they find said MA material in an M section forgetting that a sixteen and seventeen year old are in fact old enough to read M material and that parents should trust the particular rating.

In this particular case though I didn’t say anything about the site admins policing the whether the kids have their parents permission or not. I simply said that I have no sympathy for the kids who are using their 3DS as a way to get around not having their parents permission and I’m glad they have one less way of getting around it because a lot of the problem children I’ve dealt with actually don’t have their parents permission to use said site.

I mean come on, if they’re not respectful enough of their parents do you think they’re going to be respectful of the site rules as well as the members of this site? To me its a bonus all though minor.

Thus i find it foolish to drop your support for these and other devices when a probable large chunk of your users can’t access your site otherwise.

For those complaining about the K or are confused about it. K is an abbreviation of Kilo, the measurement of 1000. Example: “That car cost me $68K”or “There are about 656K harry potter stories on ffnet”. I don’t know the reason for this change as i can only speculate that the codes for the archive counters might fail when they hit one million and this is only a protective measure.

For those who are crying about the estimates, I’m not quite sure i understand why you are upset. if your fandom is as small as you say it is, why not just check it weekly? You probably won’t have to sort through as many stories as i do.

(Every week I make bookmarked folders of updated/published stories in the Naruto, Rosario+vampirexovers, and Naruto xovers archive without using character filters, which works out to be about 1.9k-2k stories weekly in naruto for 76-80 pages, rosarioxvampirexovers get about 25-35 stories for 1-2 pages, while the narutoxovers get about 350-400 stories for 14-16 pages. From the 91-100 pages of 2400-2500 stories, i can gleam 70-80 gems as i exclude Yaoi, Lemon fics, drabble fics, AU that don’t resemble the naruto or other universe in the slightest (highschool fics, Naruto working in an office), fics with updates less than 1k words, fics that i don’t think will get off the ground or that the writer can’t commit fully to, and fics that don’t have a good favorite/follow ratio (chapter one gets 80-100 combined fav/follows seems like it might be good to me). I admit that it is a flawed and unfair system for those who don’t get much story traffic as they might have real gems, but i can’t devote as much time to ffnet as i want so sacrifices must be made, but its just as well seeing as some of the stories i’ve bookmarked have been taken down).

    Someone already said it:
“Really wish the default sorting would go back to Alphabetical. Who cares how many stories have been written for something if you’re not a fan of the series?? It just makes it harder to find what you’re looking for how it is now.”

EXACTLY. My thoughts in every way.
I want the alphabetical filter back; WHY in the world did you have to remiove it?? What the heck, where is the logic to THAT? We readers want to get directly to our fandom and to the stories we are looking for, not browse through hundreds of uninteresting fandoms and doing complicated searchs. Geez, is that so hard to understand? Do your readers a favor and acrap thet “polishing” of yours, please. That was, simply put, a failure. According to the comments here, I belong to the majority of readers who thinks tat way. Sorry, but that’s how it is.

I love fanfiction.net but the new filter makes it so annoying! Like if i put in character (a) and character (b), it still pops up with every single fanfic with either of their names in it. Like if i went into “Avengers” and put in “Tony Stark” and “Steve Rogers”, i’d still get fanfics of Tony and Bruce. It’s annoying and i don’t like it at all. I loved the old format. Now i can’t find any of my favorite fanfics!!! What gives?!

      08/21/2013 at 12:31 am

@Haley – actually, that’s the way it’s always been meant to work, it just didn’t show up when there were only two characters.

Popular pairings aren’t the only reason readers search for characters, you know.

Yyyyessss you got it! IT’S STILL SHIT! Allow me to put this in word that you can understand you dumbasses. You’re all a bunch cunts. And really cannot be changed in anything other than cunts. There’s a shitton of quotes, sayings etc i could enlist to illustrate the incomprehensible ammount of utter, sheer stupidity it takes to fix something that’s not broken. My downhill bike, use it every two weeks on the slopes here. After 7 years of not giving a fuck about it, no cleaning, no brushing, no oiling, no fucking the crank finally gave out on a rock. Went online searched for the same thing. None of the reviewers managed to score more than 2 years out of it, and at 45, generally positive reviews thats a very decent thing yes, but mine was 7 why? Because i didn’t fuck with it. In the same fucking way you don’t fuck with bees, bears, wolves, cows at night and enubriated cunts. So with pleasure i once more present you the terra award for the most retarded bunch of country ass fucks this rock has ever seen. Ps before any of the guys who regularly service your flacid dicks to the point of sleeping with them in their mouths start performing cock sucking in front of me i suggest you don’t bother, you’re boring repetitve and generally 42 iq points bellow the closest cow.

I’d advise you to open a dictionary on the word pointless. Because proving a point needs anecdotes regardless of how boring you find them from the comfort of your couch. Oh and try and lay low on the snacks. Might wanna rent a bike, oh..wait you find them unvaried. Now, about the ass funny you should comment on it because i heard that fat people often have orifice problems. If i were you i’d check with the proctologist. Oh and another thing, considering you’re a massive bitch in comments to authors good or bad i really can’t take to heart anything you said. Yes… you don’t like being told to “deal” however its not the admins or fault that you are still trying to use what amounts to an obsolete device. Mind you… I do get “it still works though” issue which is why you haven’t upgraded. There are certain downfalls though to not upgrading.

Whoa whoa whoa!!! What is this?! I don’t like this new filtering system. It’s way too chaotic. I even tried to put my favorite parings twice so that I could just get stories on them and THAT didn’t work either. I like the old character 2 filter better. I even caught myself thinking that it’s not worth it to spend hours looking for the stories I want. Sad, but true…
If anyone has any other good fanfiction sites (mainly for popular anime) let me know please.

    • Simoneau

      08/21/2013 at 12:38 am

@Angel – try Archive Of Our Own. If you can stand a mess of gobbledigook tags all over your screen, that is.

As has been explained over and over (if you’d bothered to read other posts in this and the previous threads), the character fields were *never* meant for just pairings, and the extra ones were introduced after multiple requests from authors. However, to keep the pairings fans from squeaking, it’s been suggested by several posters that a “no other character” field be added to all the character search menus, so you can restrict your readings to your little heart’s delight.
Hopefully the admins will work something out to keep everyone happy.

Or here’s a thought – start your own no-fee, everyone-welcome site where you can organise everything just to suit yourself. I’m sure it would be easy-peasy…

try Archive Of Our Own. If you can stand a mess of gobbledigook tags all over your screen, that is.

        LoL…

The people who are complaining should really try their filtering system because it’s not the small numbers you have to rifle through to find what you want.

It’s not so much that they want to restrict their reading, they don’t want to see stories outside what they prefer to read. Which… honestly, seeing stories outside of your pairing doesn’t force you to read said summaries. Sure, you might actually see a summary you like and check out something that you wouldn’t normally check out, but that isn’t because anyone’s forcing you, it’s because you want to.

I’m personally finding stuff much better then before and I’ve seen an increase in the hits, reviews as well as even new readers, something I haven’t had occur in a couple of years now.

That’s nice and all… But I prefered it the way it was. That’s my 2 cents and I’m entitled to it. I do however like the idea of a “no character” filter. THAT would be pretty neat.

      • yemi hikari

        08/21/2013 at 7:09 pm

Yes. You’re entitled to your opinion here. Keep in mind though that there are a lot of people who prefer the new system because the old system was unfairly biased towards romantic pairings. You’re now upset that it isn’t biased in your favor anymore and that it is now unbiased. What you’re seeing… having to sort through other stuff… believe it or not is how it used to be as well.

I atleast ask for the option to change it to tne older version, I hope we can get to a conclusion where people can use their ‘out dated’ phones and other devices, because not all of us can buy the ‘new’ phone that came out 2 months after you upgraded.

Well it’s finally happened. The two main ways I access the site now no longer work. I tried downloading the opera os for my phone but it’s too clunky and makes it so on my smaller screen phone I only see a line or two of text, not to mention it is extremely slow, Haven’t tried the kindle one, but If it’s just as clunky I guess I can no longer enjoy the fictions on this site. I used to enjoy reading on my phone when other internet options weren’t available (traveling, at the doctor/dentist/chiropractor) now I’ll have to find other options that are not ff.net. I may still update my stories, but probably will move those as well.

It’s been fun, but these last changes are one too many.

I don’t know if it is your new system or the author’s doing because when I filter for a select couple I am getting everyone else who are or maybe just a mention and not a main character to the two. Maybe it is the author or author’s who should specify who their main charaters are but in the old system I did not get these crossover’s as I am getting now. If I want a romantic story about two heterosexuals I should not be getting homosexuals, is that too much to ask? Please do not missunderstand me I have no problem with Slash type stories so please forgive me I just don’t particularly like to read them.

    • yemi hikari

      08/21/2013 at 7:11 pm

First off, the character filter system wasn’t ever meant to denote pairings in the first place. Second, thank you for being polite about the way you worded about not seeing slash stories mixed in. People have suggested a relationship filter that we hope the site admins will implement.

I HATE the new filters. I follow one fandom where I like a certain pairing and the old system worked perfectly. Now, when I input the characters I want, it’s not just them but others that don’t even apply . I hate this new change!

      08/22/2013 at 12:49 am

Boo…hoo… character filters were never meant for pairings, they are made for the central lying characters (protagonists, antagonists, main focus, etc). Used correctly, the characters within do not denote story pairings but are instead the focus of the story

However i do have some helpful advice, Put your pairing into the character filters, In C and D put character A in. In the without filters, put the two unwanted characters that frequent your searches and you should be fine.

I liked the Categories pages better when they sorted the listings alphabetically instead of how many stories the entry has. I used to do that by clicking “All” at top, but even THAT doesn’t work. Now since most my usual haunts aren’t all that popular, I have to search for my usual subcategories like I search for needles in a haystack. Not cool.

This may seem like a trivial thing to some, but I would really like it if you programmed the site to automatically refresh things like how long ago a PM or Forum post was submitted or the alert that tells you you have a new private message without you having to refresh the page mannually. It would be very useful in my opinion.

I would also love to be able to delete PMs from my outbox again. It’s obscenely cluttered right now.

I think the 4-charactor filter is a good/bad thing. I’ve tried it out before. Like if I put /blah/ and //blah// you get one of the two or the other way around and pair them with someone else which is what I’m that almost everone is complaining about.

Hey, look. Now these filters do offer a wider range of searches, but they’re annoying as hell. You see, this is what happened. I’m a fan of Stony (Tony Stark x Steve Roger). I go into the Avengers archive. I put in romance, rated M, Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, English, and complete, just like i used to. Then when i search it up, i can’t find the stories i want, because if i leave the other two characters as “Character (C)” and “Character (D)”, every story pops up. Well, not every story, but every story rated M in English that is completed with Tony or Steve in it. Can we have an option? Like when we get to the website, just have it say “Old Format” or “New Format”.

Oh, and for all you dicks who are hating on gay pairings and people… FUCK YOU. I was raised by a family who lives in the bible belt, and went to church every Sunday. And i know that “homosexuals are a sin” is what the bible says, but the bible also says a fucking old dude built a motherfucking boat and survived a flood AFTER rounding up a whole bunch of animals. Love is love. Back off. If you don’t like it, don’t read it.

      09/23/2013 at 4:13 pm

Not wanting to see slash pairings has nothing to do with hating them. I for example hate seeing slash pairings because most of the m/m slash stories are written by females who are either rabid teenagers or house wives who take one or both of the male characters and strip them of their male qualities just to ship them together. Reading their sexual fantasies where they pretty much add to the false stereotype? It’s not that they’re writing slash that makes me feel ill but how they’re treating them.

That would explain why my phone blanks out half of the time whenever I try to read a story.
I believe that the annoyances far outweigh the “benefits” here. Why were the ‘lesser’ browsers removed from compatibility?
FF.net does not and should not require a high-powered browser. This only ruins it for those of us who don’t have internet or expensive, high-powered phones.

Still the new filter system is worthless to the blind. After randomly moving the curser all over the screen til you find the Filter button, I find out you can’t TAB onto the GO button after selecting your filter options. Though my coding experience is very limited I know you can activate both the Filter and Go button as TAB enabled and I suspect its line or two of simple code.

I just want to know how to filter the Browse TV/movies/cartoons/comics/etc alphabetically instead of by number of fanfictions. I don’t CARE how much has been posted in that section, and I respect the fact that some people do, but there used to be an option to view it alphabetically or by volume. This option seems to have disappeared in the updates. It is much harder to find things when they cannot be viewed in alphabetical order… and I would dearly love the option back.

not a slash pairing fan but i wish you luck Ana no Danna ^_^

Or the 2DS that is coming out if you don’t want the 3D technology and that’s why you weren’t upgradding.

Any reason why we can’t order the stories alphabetically anymore? And why do we have to click on “Filters” first and then have to set the filters? That’s so annoying!

Oh, and any reason you dont answer to any of your readers who are not happy with the site changes? I haven’t seen a SINGLE positive reaction to your changes so far. So NO-ONE likes them Which means: Change back to the old site. Now. NOBODY wants your so-called “improvements”, apart from yourselves.

I havent seen a SINGLE answer or explanation from you, either. Apparently, you give a ahit about your readers. You must be the rudest people on the net. I, for my part, will leave ffnet and switch to competition sites that have nicer maintainers. Good day.

I don’t plan to leave the site, but I don’t approve to the changes at all, especially with the filters. I can’t sue them because the cvanacel and apply controls are all together.
