Status: Email Alert Issues (Fixed)

UPDATE: We are aware of email alert issues and are investigating. Please be patient while we sort this out.

UPDATE 2: Issue with alerts has been fixed and we are pushing out the current backlogged email alerts out as fast as we can but it may take a few hours. Sorry for the delay folks!  For those curious, the backlog was result of a rare infinite-loop that was triggered earlier today causing alerts to be sitting and waiting on the delivery queue.

UPDATE 3: Fixed english plural problem for info tags displayed alongside forum posts.

Short FAQ on Email Alerts

1. One of the top support question is “Where is my alert?”

99% of email delivery problems are actually client-side issues with account settings or ISP. First, login to verify alert settings. Second, check warning if applicable. If we encounter an issue delivering to your inbox, a warning notice will be displayed post site login. Last, ensure your email inbox is not incorrectly filtering our emails and is in good standing as in not over-quota.

2. We have set a length limit, before truncation, on email alerts to prevent ISPs from mis-filtering our emails. An overly long email alert can inadvertently trigger some spam filters. Please note the alert length limit only affects Review, PM and Forum alerts. If your alert is truncated, it will be noted in the mail message and you can visit the site to view the full content.

That’s great! I didn’t even notice, but I spend all day at work, so I must have missed it 🙂

You are going to get absolutely flooded with complaints here. Good luck to you.

Sadly, you’re going to be proven right. But many people like to complain, and that come with the running of a large-stream website. I’m sure they’ll handle it, and be able to pinpoint legitimate problems versus meaningless whining 🙂

Why exactly is there a truncation? There was no problem with long messages before.
Annoyance: In truncated reviews, there is no longer a “respond to review by clicking this link” link. That’s not the major annoyance, though.
When viewing truncated PMs, we’re forced to view the actual message in the inbox on ffnet. That turns off the yellow highlighting of the thread because the message has already been read; what if we don’t have time to reply, but enough to read? The message could be forgotten about, especially in users with a large PM box, because we are being forced to enter prior to reading. It was easier beforehand, with non-truncated PMs.

Ok, ok you’re doing this for readers. Still no OC in every category…… pleaseeeee Hunger Games and Twilight OC choice… please?? Ive sent PMs into category and had many other others do the same, but FF hasn’t even responded or added it!!!!!!!!

I have too. A lot of people write stories with canon character/oc pairings. It would help the people who like OCs and those who don’t if there was automatically an oc tag for all fandoms with character tags.

I am currently experiencing an alert issue with FF and have sent multiple emails to the support team over the past 4 days but nothing has been resolved and I have heard nothing back from anyone. Is there any way I can get my alerts fixed? Thank you.

You reported one of our emails as spam to hotmail. You need to add us to your contact list and login to your ff/fp account and acknowledge the email alert warning at the top of the screen.

Reporting the email as spam was accidental, I just put it in the wrong folder. I have added you to my safe list and I’ve acknowledged the email alert warning on my account about 50 times but it’s still there every time I log in and I’m getting frustrated. I’ve done everything it says in FF to try and get my alerts working again but nothing is happening. What else should I do?

I’m not having any luck getting a reply from the FanFiction support regarding the disabling or re-enabling of my alerts. Neither can I get the notice on my account to go away despite an innumerable amount of times that I’ve clicked on it. I’m really missing my alerts and all I want is someone to help me. Does anyone have advice?

Ive been having trouble getting into my account. See my fictionpress account and my fanfiction account both use the same email. So I changed the email that is used for my fictionpress account so now when I try to get a new password for my fanfiction account (because my parents changed my password and ive been trying to change it back) it still registers me as my fictionpress account on fanfiction. Is there anyway you can just delete accounts or something? Because I am becoming very frustrated and I do not know what to do!!! Please help!

I know what you mean I have been having problems bringing my account up as well for I get into the main page now but when I go to do anything on it like add new stories or check out my page to see if I need to change some things it comes up only to turn around and say there is a problem with the page and kicks me out but I can get into the stories if I search them from google but if I try and go into the authers page it says the same thing and kicks me out again I don’t know what to do and would like some help but dont know how to go about talking to the person in charge of it for I can’t even get in touch with them because of not being able to do anything at all. Some advice would be nice if anyone has any for me.

Great but now we’ve got another problem. The Email alerts are a bit sluggish or something. Can you please improve performance in that area.

Is there any chance of letting people opt out of the truncation? I understand why you’ve done it but I’ve almost never had a problem with the alerts being caught in spam filters and I know to bug my email service if anything happens. It’s really bothering to keep getting review alerts that cut off midway through and I’d rather take my chances with the spam filter.

Is there any way to change to read-out on my authors alert page? Currently they are listed in chronological order. I prefer to have my authors list in alphabetical order. The better to find them without wasting time looking through the entire list

I haven’t been getting any type of email alerts from fanfiction for about two days now. My last alert was Sunday in the morning. I’ve added to my Yahoo contact list and checked my alert setting on ff and it all looks good to me. Can someone please help me?

Hi, I’m not getting any email alerts. The last I got was 14 April and none of my settings have changed since then, but I should have received some in the last 24 hours as I have new reviews posted.

I’ve tried contacting you about taking down my account – I can’t log in. I sent you an email from the address listed on this comment about a week ago. Could you please respond?

    Thanks very much.

    To Whom it may concern,
I am not getting E-Mails Updating me when The Authors that I put in my Alert Subscription list add A new story or chapter.
When I look in the listing in the categories to see how many stories are in that category it looks different for instance it will say
1.7K instead of a actual number.
    Thanks Kelly
