Now I look forward to the day when has an option to select “original character” as a main character. :c

I think they already have the choice of selecting OC under character selection don’t they?

Depends on the fandom. People have to submit the characters they want to be listed to the FF.Net mods, and sometimes requests slip by unnoticed (or in spam folders).

As someone else said, it depends on the fandom. The only fandom I know that has it is the Harry Potter fandom. I believe there are a few others, but I don’t know which one they are. The OC tag comes in handy too and has worked well in that fandom. I think each fandom with character tags should have one as a standard personally.

The new forum moderator image sealing-wax.png looks awful. The fact that links to profiles and threads within forums are no longer underlined is simply not aesthetically pleasing. Any hope for a fix?

Yes, thank you. Now Chrome’s spell checker can work properly. Very much appreciated.

Thank you for the improvements, but I have a complaint.
The new image for forum moderators (sealing-wax.png), isn’t visually appealing. I’ve seen some others complain, and I must say I agree.
Is there any chance that you can change it back to the golden badge?

What is with the sealing wax mod icon thing? Neither I or anyone else awake on LawlClan like it, so reverse it now! 😡

    08/03/2012 at 3:47 am

The new ‘sealing wax’ icon instead of the shield for forum moderators looks like a fried egg (ugly). Maybe a medal or badge is a better idea if the shield has to be replaced?

That above.. and I also don’t like it how on the forums the names do not color darker anymore when you look at them once. I mean… This way it is harder to see which is a recent post… Before it was just enough to look at the colors to see which post needed a reply…

I’m not sure whether this is a temporary glitch, just my computer or something about the coding on website itself, but after I click on links (on forums, et cetera), they remain blue instead of changing colour, so I can’t tell what threads I’ve already looked at. I participate in a few extremely large, active forums where people often create new threads very frequently, so it’s extremely inconvenient for the links not to show whether I’ve already ‘followed’ them and looked at a new thread.

      08/03/2012 at 1:45 pm

It is not your computer. In CSS, a designer can choose if there is a different color for links that users have already clicked on.

    • velvetdemon

      08/03/2012 at 6:11 pm

It’s like this for the whole site. I can’t stand it. The changed color on the links is how I keep track of what I’ve read by and author and what I haven’t. You don’t know what you’ve viewed. I wish the would change the script back to how it was. I want my purple viewed links back.

This is a real pain. I spent an hour mucking about in html trying to fix this issue (like when they first screwed up defining the page width a month or so back) but i can’t do a thing to fix this. It’s impossible to tell where you were up to in an archive list now, even more so given the ‘cover images’ in the archives now, because apparently having numbers on a list was a bad idea.

This is an awesome improvement, and I like the new little characters too. The under-cooked cookie made me laugh.

    • Xing

      08/03/2012 at 7:22 am

We just changed it just because people misinterpreted the images. It was a chocolate cookie, not a burnt one. =) Now’s its a bamboo and sofa which should end the mud pie, pizza, or burnt cookie comments.

      • myrddinlefay

        08/03/2012 at 7:31 am

I feel you should have made the little sushi roll (oh sorry, bamboo) and ribbons different colours so they don’t match others. You still have blue, orange or yellow you could use. 🙂

      • Lord Kelvin

        08/03/2012 at 8:04 am

There’s no logical transition in new icons. Leaf to bamboo (sushi) is understandable, but sofa to ribbon to…ruby?

        08/03/2012 at 8:31 am

Will we at least sometime soon get our purple back when we click on a link so we know what we’ve clicked on? Or make it green? Or red? Or with a green, blue, red, or yellow tick next to it so we know what we’ve looked at so we don’t coincidently stumble into the same stories multiple times just months apart when we want to read something new. And it would be nice to make that apart of a persons account so if they get a new computer or use a different computer, as long as they’re signed in they’ll know what they’ve looked at.

    08/03/2012 at 11:39 am

I must agree with some of the others about the links. It makes it harder to remember what’s been read and what’s not been read. I like the idea of making it an account based as opposed to computer based but honestly I’ll just be happy to get it back to differentiating between read and unread. Thanks. 🙂

I’ve had a reviewer leave abuse on one of my stories for more than four days now. I’ve reported it more than once, I understand that admins get many abuse reports but it shouldn’t take so long. Please make an improvement in this area rather than the look of the site!

    • yemi hikari

      08/05/2012 at 2:07 am

First, on a lot of sites it can take this much time or more to go through abuse reports. Most sites also have different people working on different aspects. For example, a group of people are in charge of abuse reports, a group of people is in charge of categories that need to be added, other people work with the site maintenance. Taking a person from one group to work in another is considered bad form unless it is an emergency.

Second, keep in mind that the site admins will not remove a review that doesn’t constitute abuse. I don’t know if the review in question constitutes abuse or not simply because I have not personally seen it.

      • ~Cherry!~

        08/06/2012 at 2:59 pm

I know it takes time, which is also why I’ve said in the past too put a status update on reports so that a user would know what action has been taken.
This particular reviewer left a message which was giving me a death threat, ordering me to stop reviewing ‘badly’ on other peoples stories and had a swear word. Which is why I’m not keen on having it left on a story which I made K rated. It’s been more than a week.

      • Anon

        08/06/2012 at 3:19 pm

I would have to agree with you. That needs to be removed as soon as possible.

        08/06/2012 at 3:22 pm

I’m losing hope, the longer that says on the more this bully/troll thinks their winning. That and children who reads it will get an unpleasant surprise…

I really hope a status update on reports gets to be next on the list for improving the site.

I had this question since the site was updated, where did the return to top button that was always at the bottom go?

    • yemi hikari

      08/06/2012 at 2:42 am

      I don’t remember that feature…

      • Anon

        08/06/2012 at 3:12 pm

It was there at the very bottom, but it is not. It is very handy when you are reading one-shots and need to get back to the fanfiction list.

Why not use the home button on your keyboard?

      • Robin

        08/06/2012 at 4:23 pm

It there. At the very bottom at least on mine it has the Top feature. Scroll till you cannot scroll no more it’s next to the word Help.

Can you change the font back please? It was so much easier to read before…

    • myrddinlefay

      08/06/2012 at 4:04 pm

@Cherry: The home button takes you to your browsers home page. If that’s Google like mine and many other peoples then that’s useless. I never used the return to top button as I search through communities and just centre click to open loads of new tabs of fics that I would like to read. If I like them, I’ll fave or follow, and review and then just click the little X. If I don’t like, I’ll leave a small review or something and just leave. This way I have all the pages I want. Though, if FFN keeps up all these changes the sites pages will take up so much ram we’ll be lucky to open a second page lol!

      • ~Cherry!~

        08/06/2012 at 4:19 pm

Not the home button on your browser, I meant on the keyboard. The home button always takes me to the top of the page and the end button takes me to the bottom.

      • myrddinlefay

        08/06/2012 at 4:31 pm

I mean I just open up lots of new tabs from a community I’m searching through, and that if FFN keeps with all these useless updates none of my computers will have enough ram (speed + power) to open multiple FFN links.

Anyway, the HOME button on the keyboard is supposed to either open your browser to your homepage or if your browser is already running take you to your homepage. Mine doesn’t take me to the top of a page. That just seems weird. Are you sure you haven’t messed with the settings or something?

      • ~Cherry!~

        08/14/2012 at 7:36 pm

Nope, the button always takes me to the top of the page. Tried it with a few other models of computers/laptops and they do the same thing. Maybe it’s your settings?

I’m sorry for selfishly using this topic for question, but is it another improvement or bag of my browser that texts became so much bigger? Is there any way to fix it for guests who didn’t have an account?

(Sorry for any mistakes, I’m good at reading in English, not at writing.)

    • myrddinlefay

      08/14/2012 at 9:31 pm

By design the Home button is for opening your homepage on your preferred browser. Its not called the top button. Heck, its picture on my keyboards are all homepage button pics the same as on Chrome, Firefox and IE. What does your E-mail button do then? Turn your computers off? Mine brings up Thunderbird. I have never now or ever changed any hotkey settings on lap top, notebook, tower etc.

This seems odd… maybe its a country thing or something and whoever sets up your keyboards are stupid?

        08/15/2012 at 12:32 am

I think what people are talking about is the Home key on the keyboard, which does take you to the top of the page.

      • Myrddin

        08/15/2012 at 1:53 am

The Home KEY on the KEYBOARD, which as I stated above takes you to your HOMEPAGE of your preferred browser! It isn’t supposed to take you to the top of the page. The button page UP would do that! What do you think someone thought up the little house symbol and thought, “you know what, lets make that button take a person to the top of a page.” The HOME key on your keyboard is for HOMEPAGE! The little envelope is for email, and the little magnify glass is for searching (as in searching for a file by name or type in your HDD!)

If your home key on the keyboard takes you to the top of the page then check its settings because they’re obviously wrong! I’ve now checked on several computers. Mine, works, friends, families. They all take me to homepage!

      • ~Cherry!~

        08/15/2012 at 11:14 am

You don’t have to be so mean! On many keyboard the home page is written, not symbolized by a house. Most keyboards don’t have the envelope button or the magnifying glass anymore.
Just because it doesn’t work for you or your friends it doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Keyboard vary via COUNTRY. And I’m not just saying the letters, I mean the commands buttons. Keyboards in some parts of Europe are similar to those in most of America but not all. Different models also have different keys. Two brands of the same laptop for example can have different keyboards. It’s the way their manufactured and your personal settings.

Why is everyone still talking about the way a home button works!?

      • KageNoNeko

        08/15/2012 at 1:17 pm

Right on, ~Cherry!~ I wish I had seen your comment before I posted my response.

      • Myrddin

        08/15/2012 at 1:28 pm

Cherry, I wasn’t being mean. I was replying while a little too annoyed about something else, and your reply kind of tweaked at my annoyed meter and turned it red, lol!

      • ~Cherry!~

        08/15/2012 at 1:37 pm

Hehey, no problem. And don’t worry about it Myrddin! I’m just kinda surprised, how come not more people know about keyboards being different in other countries? Anyway, let’s just all stop about this home button fiasco and instead say: Problem solved!

      • KageNoNeko

        08/15/2012 at 1:14 pm

For me, if I hit the Home key, it takes me to the top of the current page I have open. The only way I think you are getting the result that you are getting a different result from everyone else is because your computer has that key programmed to mean something else.

      • Myrddin

        08/15/2012 at 1:24 pm

Hey, I just noticed something that made me laugh when you said written. I looked on my keyboard and found one that is written too. That one surprisingly took me to the top of the page. Honestly I have never noticed it before. I believe we’ve all had our lines a little crossed here lol! I was talking about HOTkeys, and you seemed to be talking about REALkeys.

Though KageNoNeko I believe the US and UK keyboards layouts are different. I think I heard that on the Gadget Show or maybe from somewhere on Google, can’t remember. It doesn’t really matter.

Wow, this became one big ranter about something that doesn’t even matter lol! We still have mouse wheels and the side bar to go up and down, and page up, page down buttons as well as arrows. Plus at the bottom FFN does have a top button.

      • ~Cherry!~

        08/15/2012 at 1:34 pm

That’s what I was thinking! XD It’s such a minor thing, even if you don’t have the button that works you can just scroll up or use the link at the bottom of the page that say’s top!
