I am so unhappy. you deleted my story, and there are plenty other like it and none of them got deleted. i dont get it. its a truth or dare, and there are other FanFics like that too. Why is mine any different? I didnt know where to tell you, but im very angry.

maybe your fic do not allowed fanfiction rules.

okay the new alerts totally suck i can’t even sort by category anymore i have over 800 alerts in alot of different Category’s it needs to go back to the way it was

I agree with “Anonymous 08/08/2012 at 2:24 pm”. Is there any possible way to retain the old theme? Like in the yahoo mail.
08/09/2012 at 3:38 pm
I like the old way better when you only had one page. please bring it back this. new system just make me angry.

This is the 3rd day this post has been up & I believe the 3rd day ‘Favorites’ (both stories & author sections) were changed. Absolutely nothing has happened since the complaints started coming in:( Maybe I’m stupid or was dropped on my head as a child, but it’s my understanding that when something is ‘upgraded’ that means ‘improved’. This ‘upgrade’ did nothing but take options away & make more steps with the options that stayed:( This is my 2nd & last comment. A big waste of my time!

As with the comment from csp4, this is also my 3rd time of posting on this issue, but you seem to just want to ignore us. Are you set on alienating your customers? We’ve already put up with the wholesale deletion of stories and now we’re expected to just accept changes that make the site even less user-friendly. I have slowly been following my favourite authors/stories over to other sites and this is only confirming that I, and they, have made the correct choice. Fanfiction.net has lost its soul.
We want the sort functions to be put back to the top of the columns, with stories listed in alphabetical order where appropriate, and favourites to be on one page only.
The sort functions you have added in replacement are not worth the time and effort you have expended to create them as they are quite useless.
PS. In what language is ‘un-favourited’ an actual word??????
08/10/2012 at 10:08 pm
I completely agree the old was had way more options
08/09/2012 at 7:29 pm
Is there a way to bring back the old favorite sorting style. I can’t stand the way it has been sorted into several pages, I have like 24 pages now and it’s really reeally inconvenient to look through all pages just to find a story every time. Also, we need the category sort back.
One good thing with the change is that you can delete several stories at once.
PLEASE let us have the option to have all stories on 1 page!

someone has probably already asked this but HOW do I know when my favourite stories have been updated??? I have 3 pages of favourites (I only get emails for a few of them) and its making me slightly crazy (!!!) that I cant see what’s been updated! If some one could help I would be eternally grateful 🙂

The new ways to view and sort favorited stories is, as many have stated, a serious DOWNgrade from the system that was in place before now. Having all favorited stories on one page made it faster and easier to spot the one you were looking for or to simply browse for ones that you’d like to read again. Even taking that convenience away, however, isn’t as bad as taking away the option to SORT BY CATEGORY. I usually get in the mood for one category or another at any given time, and having all those favorited stories together made it much easier, faster, and enjoyable for me to peruse them. The new system is not nearly as user-friendly. I get that you’re trying to improve the site, but in this case, it was truly ‘don’t fix something that isn’t broken.’ I have never complained about this site before, and many of the upgrades have been for the better — this is not one of them.

I miss the “Sort story by category” and having all my favorites in just one page! Some of the updates were pretty annoying to be honest.
Why do you need to know
08/10/2012 at 7:33 pm
I hate this. I like the idea, and I’m sure you had good intentions, but the previous format was much easier for me to deal with. At the very least, can you add a sort by category option? I miss being able to do that.

Here is a suggestion – since all the shopping websites do it maybe FFN can too – on the alerts page add the option “VIEW ALL” so that those of us who have large numbers of fics on alert can at least have the option of seeing them all on one page.
The way it is set up right now has made going through my alert list almost impossible – and very frustrating. I refer to the list often and now it is useless. Maybe you could make it downloadable to a spreadsheet.
I had been trying to clean up my list which was a slow process (FFN wouldn’t let it be printed out so it was a repetitive, tedious process) now it is just too difficult and time consuming, so I stopped.
08/11/2012 at 4:50 am
Please make the favorites one page again. Those of us with lots of favs just can’t go through all those pages.
08/11/2012 at 10:44 am
I totally agree! I have 185 favourites (3 pages) but the list isn’t in any order that makes sense. I don’t care when I added it I want to know when it UPDATED!!
08/11/2012 at 6:58 am
This may sound like a 3 year old having a tantrum, but is the plainest way to put it. I WANT THE OLD WAY BACK!!!!!! I like being able to have it all on one page (never mind how long), being able to sort by catagory and author, not just by title, update and added, and to simply hit remove on the story in question, rather then selecting a box and going down to the bottum to remove a story from my alert list. Were there really that many complaints about the old way that you had to mess with a working system? I can agree that the changes to the search engine made sense, but this was just silly. You subtracted options rather then adding them! In what world does it make it better? No I have to hunt for all of my different catagories rather then hitting one thing and being able to find them. No offense, but this recieves a very loud BOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! from me (and looking at the comments, I’m not the only one.).

Seems like I’m not the only one who thinks these recent “improvements” are actually the opposite of improvements. I’ve been using this site for over 10 years and have had an account on here for at least five. Personally, I think the old layout of the site was easier to use than they way it is setup now, and that’s not just because I was used to the old setup. To put it simply, I can’t understand why changes would be made in the first place. Finding specific stories in my favorites is much harder than it should be now. I use to sort by category and author ONLY and I can’t even do that now! Plus having them displayed on multiple pages is unnecessary, in my opinion. If you are committed to this idea then at least increase the number of stories that can be seen on one page, 50 is not enough.
08/11/2012 at 3:39 pm
I just want the links in people’s favorites pages to turn color if I’ve already clicked on them. Sure the updates may be at the top, but I’m following a lot of fic and it would be really nice to be able to tell by the color of the links if I’ve already read the newest chapter, or even read the fic itself recently. And it isn’t even that the site is somehow not acknowledging links being clicked because the links actually on people’s ‘my stories’ tab are still turning color (although not the little arrow thing that indicates if you’ve clicked on the newest chapter) but those same links in the ‘favorites’ tab are not. I hope this is fixed soon, because actually having to look for the update date is really inconvenient, especially since I read so many fic that it simply isn’t possible for me to remember the dates I last read them on. Maybe if I was only following a few fic this wouldn’t be a problem, but with as many as I have in my favorites it really is. I hope this is fixed soon.

Have to agree about the changes to the favourites/alerts sorting. I logged in last night looking for a story that i could only remember the category of and instead of being able to sort so all that category were together I’d need to go through all my favourites which were over several pages. In the end i gave up. It was much easier before why did it need to changed?
08/11/2012 at 5:59 pm
hate the favorites page now instead of one big pages i have like 50 pages i dont like it makes looking for a specific story really hard bring back the old page
08/11/2012 at 6:23 pm
On the favorite stories page, can you add the option of sorting by category back? It makes it easier to separate between the different fiction worlds if that option is re-instituted. I personally have a lot of different favorites in a variety of fandoms and do not always wish to sift through by various dates or story titles.
08/11/2012 at 10:54 pm
F@#$ HERE ARE ALL THE PEOPLE THAT WANT FANFICTION FAVS TO GO BACK THE WAY IT WAS CHANGE IT THE HELL BACK !! GOD :@
08/12/2012 at 2:04 am
The old way was better! We can no longer sort by category anymore.
08/12/2012 at 11:48 am
This is no improvement at all, you took away several features that helped in the management of our alerts and favourites. I very much prefer the previous design rather than this one, would you please turn it back to how it was before this so called “upgrade”? I read as many comments as I could, and I can tell that I’m obviously not the only one unhappy with this change, and we aren’t just a few either.
08/12/2012 at 2:26 pm
I have 1938 favorites and I will never ever find anything again. I and others want the old system back.
!!!!! PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK !!!!!!!!
08/12/2012 at 4:34 pm
I’m frustrated because I’ve removed an author from my favorites list yet I’m still receiving new chapter updates! I deleted the author months ago! How long does it take to MAKE IT STOP?!
08/12/2012 at 6:42 pm
Those new features have done nothing but hinder me. It was probably based on the mobile version, but if I wanted that, I would have used my phone. Can you please change the favorite’s page back to what it was? It was more manageable before. While I’m sure you guys are busy, changing it back would be helpful. Thanx.
Please take this seriously. Don’t go through the trouble or posting this blog and not listen to what others want. I can guarantee there are a couple hundred others that don’t like this.
08/13/2012 at 12:28 am
I have 500 authors on my author alert list. Not being able to sort by author name is horrible. All these changes you are making are not helping the system. Please allow us to change the sort order, or at least be able to view all on one page!
08/13/2012 at 3:17 am
The old features of FF.net were genius. I loved the site sincerely and have never seen a better way to manage all my favorite fics. All the other Fanfiction-sites paled in comparison to FF.net. But now the handling gets worse like all the other sites. Some days I don’t even feel like to search something in my alerts or favorites or to add a new fic to my favorites or alerts.
Could you please change the favorites and alerts features back to how they were before? Will say: Could you please re-add the sorting feature to the headline where it says Story, Author, Updated, Added?
And another request: Before the change there was a really useful feature when adding a story to favorites and alerts. When I added a story and it was already on one of my lists, FF.net said so. For example: Story…is already on your favorite stories list.
This feature is unfortunately gone, but it was soooo great!
When I now add a story it always said We have …processed the following:… whether it was on my list before or not.
08/13/2012 at 8:52 pm
Please return the alerts/favorites section to the old way. It was much easier to go through. If not you at least make it one page and add sort by category
08/13/2012 at 8:59 pm
I, like many others, desire for it to change back the Favorites List back to the way it was previously. Especially since the option to categorize the stories by their cartoon/anime/etc name has been eliminated. After all, if one wishes to read only stories of the Movie type ‘Transformers’, it is impossible now with this new way. As said by a previous comment, an Upgrade means that it supposedly has been improved, yet this New way is much more of an inconvenience. Many of us understand that those in charge of these changes work very hard, but as I myself say “Why mess with a good thing?” Please change it back to the old way, I and many others was quite fond of having one page with the ability to sort any of the old ways despite having over 500 favorites.
08/14/2012 at 12:42 pm
Just hoping that you will also be changing it so that you can sort by name again! Thanks!
08/15/2012 at 3:58 am
Could you change that back? I have a lot of favs and i was really happy that i had them all on one page. Especially since one can’t sort by Category anymore…
thank you for your work!
08/15/2012 at 6:48 pm
I am really pissed about right now since all the stories I have saved since July 12 that said they were are NOT on my favs. I am thinking of switching websites this is stupid.
08/15/2012 at 11:53 pm
i hate this type of set up for the favs stories
i like the old way so much better
i would like if you change it back
what gave you this idea is beyond be
so many stories has been deleted but yet others are still there why
i was in the middle of reading a story then it got deleted altogether
im soo not happy right now
PUT CATEGORY AS A WAY TO SORT OUT THE FAV STORIES
SOME OF US HAVE ALOT OF STORIES
08/18/2012 at 6:10 pm
I think Fanfiction needs a new feature to lessen the number of authors notes. I know many of the authors are young people who would abuse an Authors note feature, so maybe if it was done in a form, fill in the blank this would end the worry of abuse. Like this
Authors name, will not be writing story name, any longer.
Authors name, will be closing their account in a number, days. Please save any of their story you wish to read again.
Authors name, with be rewriting story name, to improve the content.
I feel as a writer this would help me and others out, without spamming readers. I hope to hear back from Fanfiction on this idea!

This is about the Favorites and Story Alerts lists. Can you PLEASE let us sort our favorite stories by Category and Author again!!?? It makes it SO MUCH easier to find the story we’re looking for! Especially now with the multiple pages on both lists!!
08/19/2012 at 10:00 pm
Those sorting methods was how I found the fics that I wanted to reread.
08/22/2012 at 11:51 am
Please bring back the old way of sorting favs and alerts! Some (most likely all) have A LOT of faved/alerted stories and it’s much easier sorting them in the old way.
08/22/2012 at 11:53 am
Old way was better. Please bring it back! (Why did anyone think it was a good idea not to be able to sort by categories or author’s name?)
08/23/2012 at 12:21 pm
While I liked the old way of one page, I’d be fine with it if you could at least sort by category. Once you get into the hundreds not being able to sort that way just sucks.
09/07/2012 at 4:29 pm
I’ve tried – I’ve really, REALLY tried to adjust to the new Alerts/Favorites format but the more I use it, the less I like it.
I miss having everything on one page….
I miss being able to sort by author…
I hate that the default sort is the date I put it on Alert or Favorite…
I hate having to go to the end of the page to switch between pages
I wish they would go back to the old format – it was so much more user friendly. 😦
10/16/2012 at 10:33 pm
I got an e-mail saying that an author posted me on the story alert list what does that mean? Does that mean that that author thinks their is something wrong with my story?
03/21/2013 at 5:12 pm
I hope that the favorite list in our account page can also be sorted by status. then, we don’t have to scroll all the way down the profile page to reread a complete fav story.
