When you sort by “life” on the doc manager page, they are still sorted incorrectly. One with 7 days left is placed with those with 70 days left.

I have a suggestion but since I don’t have tweet I don’t know where to put it. So, here it is :

Asian Dramas are getting more and more popular and some are really highly Fanfiction material. Some drama’s fic are already in, but under the categeories Anime/manga or TVshow, when actually it’s really neither. I suggest that the category “Asian Drama” should be added to make it clear. Just go on the website, and you’ll see how famous it’s getting, worldwide. If this categorie were to be made, it wouldn’t be for nothing. You would have several languages(english, french, german, indonesian, spanish, italian…), as well as a different and large community interested in your website.

Thank you for reading this comment

If an Asian Drama is based off an Anime/Manga then it should be put under that section. If it is based off a Light Novel, it should be placed under a Light Novel section. Asian Drama should specifically be for those series that are original plot lines to Asian Drama. Otherwise we might as well add a movie category for Harry Potter, Twilight, Chronicles of Narnia and so on. This would help cut back on the number of fandoms that are under the Anime/Manga series. A Visual Novel category would also be good too.

    • ~Cherry!~

      10/09/2012 at 1:58 am

You can just put that in the TV section.

      • yemi hikari

        10/09/2012 at 2:55 am

That’s rather like saying we can just stick Anime/Manga into the Cartoon and Comic sections. Asian Drama is very different from Western Drama. Manhwa and ManHua also have their own mini category under miscilanous too.

      • ~Cherry!~

        10/09/2012 at 3:22 pm

Not really Anime/Manga is the same as Cartoon and Comics, just different names. To make it easier there’s separate categories.Asian Drama isn’t that different from Western Drama, both have plots, both have actors…There’s not much reason to add another category. Asian drama stories are already included in the TV section anyway, there not breaking any rules, drama is drama so it makes sense to just include Asian Drama under the TV section.

      • yemi hikari

        10/09/2012 at 4:32 pm

@ Cherry – All you did was reword my point. Asian Drama is very different from Western Drama in the same way Anime/Manga is different from Cartoons/Comics. While it is true that they share a lot of the same rules as you point out, the cultural influence is very different as is where it comes from. Bollywood work is also very different from Hollywood work, just like Light Novels are different from the regular novel. It’s the cultural differences that appear in the work that I am referring too.

        10/09/2012 at 4:40 pm

There’s no point in adding a new category when people are happy just adding their stuff to the categories the site already has…

      • yemi hikari

        10/09/2012 at 10:37 pm

Except some people aren’t happy with the categories we have. I never sent in a request to the site admins because I haven’t had any Asian Drama I wanted to write for that wasn’t adapted off Anime/Manga. I also thought someone else would have brought it up by now.

P.S. Shouldn’t Bollywood be under Misc. rather then Movies too? That’s where I would go looking for it, not the Movie section.

      • ~Cherry!~

        10/11/2012 at 5:01 pm

Why wouldn’t bollywood be under movies?! That’s exactly like saying everything from hollywood should be under misc movies.
It’ll be clearer for people to search through with added categories, but you can’t guarantee all authors who already submitted the stories/poems to the current categories to move them to the new ones.

      • yemi hikari

        10/11/2012 at 5:49 pm

Why should Bollywood be filed under Movies when it could potentially become a main category like Movies happens to be? Manhwa and ManHua both happen to have their own categories under Misc. because they have the potential to become their own main categories if they get popular enough. Having them as main categories will also make it so more people are willing to actually post their fanfics to the site as it will be easier to search. Asian Drama is in itself popular enough to warrant its own main category on the front page.

I also don’t see the point of your second argument because said argument means the site admins shouldn’t add any new categories at all. If you go and look through the misc. book categories. If you look through the misc. book category you’ll find that there are plenty of stories that haven’t been re-categorized into their correct fandom once the fandom was added. Change is needed to make things easier for people.

      10/14/2012 at 5:07 pm

If it’s an original plotline (not based off of a show from Japan, China, Korea and so on) from your very own characters, then it shouldn’t be on FanFiction anyway. It should be on FictionPress. But yeah, if it’s an original plot based on an Asian drama TV show, movie, etc. then it should be put under that TV show, movie, etc. Not it’s own category on FF. Maybe it’s own category on FP, but not FF.

      • yemi hikari

        10/18/2012 at 9:40 pm

Except Anime/Manga has its own category instead of being grouped under the Cartoon or Comic categories. Asian Drama includes both Movies and Television too. There are over fifty of them under television and that should be enough to justify moving them to their own category.

I’ve been trying to edit titles with contractions in them or words indicating ownership. For example, a chapter title that says, “The Girl Can’t Fly” ends up as “The Girl Can” when I go to edit it. I’m using Google Chrome by the way.

Maybe it’s a problem with apostrophes in general. All mine (that were at the time written in an unconventional way (accent acute instead of apostrophe, because the apostrophe button didn’t work on my old computer) seem to have disappeared – at least from my profile. I do hope I don’t have to go back and fix all that in my older stories as well…

You know what would be a great update? Category removal. Mainly in the advanced search, or heck, in the normal filters. It would really help. Better yet, a character filter too. For example, if looking at Harry Potter fanfics, I’d want to read about Draco and anyone… except Ron. (Just an example) I could filter him out instead of having to open 80 tabs with Draco and every other character I might be interested in.

    • yemi hikari

      10/09/2012 at 1:59 am

It’s been suggested and hopefully they’ll get to adding it. It would be nice if one could include multiple characters not to include though, or make it so that we can include more then one character in the search frame, but that might be to complex to program. For example, if I want stories featuring Draco with Hermione, Lucious, Narcissa, Luna then I would be able to do so.

      • Phil

        10/09/2012 at 6:37 pm

Please get back to responding to abuse reports and category requests instead of waiting months or longer to do anything about them, aka “the purge.” I feel like I’m wasting my time with each abuse report. I’m tired of people posting their spam real person and original fictions in the Misc. categories, covering up stories that otherwise I could find easier if it weren’t for these irrelevant rule breakers, and I’m tired of not at least getting to have my own category so my own works won’t continue to get buried beneath the spam. What’s the deal? Please answer me, as I asked the other day, surely it’s not just one person that handles abuse reports and category requests? This “Zach” person, the only name given when my emails actually were responded to? And show this comment, there’s no reason why you couldn’t let my other one show up in the previous blog entry. You made this blog for people to bring suggestions/concerns to you (besides just announcing things), now answer mine. It’s not like there’s hundreds of comments here and mine’s hidden amongst them.

      10/11/2012 at 10:40 am

Please answer my and everyone else’s comments. It’d be nice if you could give us some kind of reassurance about this problem with real person fictions. I’m doing my part reporting but you people aren’t doing yours by removing the stories in a timely manner that keeps things from getting out of control. You shouldn’t wait until a once in a while “purge” to do this. It’s not fair on a variety of levels.

Why is it that when I go on ffnet to read a story it doesn’t turn purple, thus showing that I’ve read/klicked on the story these days?

I’m sorry for the crappy explaination but I can’t describe it any better. I lack the better words. :/

    10/09/2012 at 8:28 am

I am wondering if the work on updates means that you will have time to start acting on abuse reports again soon?

It is so discouraging to see writers of original fiction on FFNet and of One Direction fics on BOTH sites gloat because their stories aren’t being deleted. I swear I’m going to scream the next time a 1D writer says “Since it hasn’t been removed yet, I guess my story isn’t breaking any rules, so there!”

    • ~Cherry!~

      10/09/2012 at 3:16 pm

It takes years to get a response on F.F and that’s not even exaggerating. Granted the site get’s boatloads of reports every day but it’s not much of an excuse to leave us hanging for a year or so!
Large sites like Facebook give you an answer within a month. Maybe it’s because they have more staff but if that is the case why doesn’t F.F and FP simply hire more staff?

    • yemi hikari

      10/09/2012 at 4:45 pm

If their stories are not being reported then the site admins will not remove them. This is why I suggested having a place that the writer had to enter the fandom when they post to one of the misc. story categories. It would cut back on this problem drastically. Not to mention you get a lot of people who are dumb enough to think that because it hasn’t been removed it isn’t breaking the rules no matter what rule they break. I don’t know what this year long response that you guys are referring to is. I’ve always gotten good turn back on the offenses that could get the site into legal trouble.

That also said, would it be possible for the site admins move certain crossover categories that are under the misc. category? I’m not specifically talking about the Anime X-over and such categories because that helps when your doing a crossover with more then one fandom.

However, people are still posting to the Buffy X-over, Sailor Moon X-over, Final Fantasy X-over categories despite the fact they should be posting to those specific fandoms. On top of this, the Gundam Wing/Sailor Moon, Dragon BallZ/Sailor Moon and Digimon/Pokemon should be moved to the crossover section of the site.

It would also be nice to have a bracket tag that we can send in miscategorized stories too in addition to the [abuse] and [category] tags in the e-mail.

    • yemi hikari

      10/10/2012 at 2:49 am

And yes site admins, the 1D fans are gloating about the fact you haven’t removed them. A good deal of them are younger users who will not obey the site rules unless a punishment is set down for them, and some of them are not even old enough to be on the site.

      • Wesfanemt333

        10/10/2012 at 8:59 pm

And the real person writers, like the Jonas fans. They go nuts, and then “Well so and so has a JB fanfic and it hasn’t been deleted!” Can you adminly types please act on the reports we send in? It gets frustrating.

    10/10/2012 at 10:39 am

    @yemi hikari —

I used to get responses from site admins within a week or two for every abuse report I mailed in. But now the last response I got was almost three months ago. It makes me wonder whether admins are taking a break of some kind, or if it works better to let them build up and then do another mass purge.

Amins, the longer these stories remain, the more their writers begin to believe that the rules are NOT enforced. The result of that is that they continue to post their One Direction porno stories and Josh Hutcherson sexual fantasies; New writers, seeing that those stories are still here, join them in believing that the rules aren’t enforced. The problem is growing exponentially every day.

Can you tell us why the delay in response to abuse reports, when it had been going so well for a while?

    • yemi hikari

      10/21/2012 at 12:11 am

It has come to my attention that a certain story in the Hetalia Axis Powers section is violating the terms of service. It is listed as M rating when the rating should really be MA or NC 17 seeing how this story contains graphic sexual content. Don’t take my word for it see for yourself:

This story clearly is pornography which should not be allowed on Children aged 13 and over could accidentally be exposed to such garbage! I’ve reported this story several times but you seam to chose ignore my requests to remove it. This disappoints me. The administrators at your website used to be efficient when it came to investigating reports of abuse and removing the offending story that violated the TOS! I implore you to please enforce your websites rules better! seams to be over run with authors willfully violating the rules and dumping their pornography into the “Mature” section of your website. If you people can’t be bothered to run your website properly and punish these violators who blatantly break the rules with publishing their pornography here I’ll see to it this website is closed so innocent children can’t be exposed to such trash! I suggest you get rid of the story I mentioned earlier and others like it now! Or you can kiss your website goodbye!

    • KH

      10/14/2012 at 5:19 pm

Well, you should be happy, the story was removed by the site. Pity that you felt it necessary to threaten the site with some sort of unnamed action in order to bully them into doing what you wanted. For the record, children under the age of 13 should not be reading on here without close parental supervision because ultimately it’s the responsibility of the parents to make sure what their kids are reading is appropriate for them, NOT the responsibility of the writers to water down their work to meet child-safe standards, especially if their works are appropriately warned and rated as per the site ratings system…which admittedly is quite ambiguous and vague as to what is considered MA/NC-17 fics vs. what is M/T rated fics. The site is not specifically aimed at entertaining children, it’s aimed at all ages, but it is my understanding that kids under the age of 13 are really not supposed to be on here, which is not the site’s issue, it’s the parents’ issue to monitor their children’s computer habits. There are plenty of filters that parents can install on their computers to protect their kids and keep them away from any site or content they deem inappropriate for their children. Just my 2 cents.

Sorry, but it is the job of the writer to make sure that their stories are appropriately rated. Anyone who is sixteen or up can read M rated material without parental permission and they shouldn’t have to worry about someone sticking MA content into the stories. Some parents allow their kids under sixteen to read M rated stuff as well, but MA content is a completely different story. Now, I get how sometimes the line between M and MA content isn’t clear and I don’t place blame on either party in these cases, but there are times that it is very clear cut and this just amounts as an excuse from the writer.

P.S. I do agree about the whole bullying the site admins though.

      • Shawnesty

        10/15/2012 at 7:35 pm

My concern is that the self-appointed site nannies are going to see that making such dire threats and bullying is an effective tool to get their way and they’ll be utilizing such browbeat tactics every time they find a story offensive and want it removed. Granted, in this case it does seem that there was something in the story that warranted its removal, but it horrifies me to think that if someone gets their panties in a twist over anything that the individual might find offensive, be it language, violence, sexual situations, or religious angles, they will initiate those bullying tactics in order to get the story taken down. I’m a writer myself and I do agree that it’s my responsibility as the author to make sure my work is correctly rated per the site’s system and that the story content adheres to that rating I’ve given it, plus I make sure to warn on any content that may be potentially offensive to some readers, but that’s where my responsibility ends on the site. It’s not up to me to police the kids on the site, that’s the duty of the parents to make sure that what their kids are reading is safe and appropriate for them.

      • yemi hikari

        10/16/2012 at 12:20 am

@Shawnesty – I’m going to say I like what you said a lot. I’m going to add the fact that if one stoops to bullying someone whether they are rule breaking or not makes one no better then the rule breakers on the site.

    • Guest

      10/14/2012 at 7:32 pm

I abide by the site’s rules and expect others to do so. I don’t like when authors post MA material under the M or T rating, either, but do you have to come here with the holier than thou attitude?

I’m not interested in clicking on the link, but KH states it has been deleted. You could have simply brought the matter to the admin’s attention by naming the story, explaining why you feel it violates the TOS and ask for it to be removed. The threats are uncalled for.

      Just my two cents.

        10/14/2012 at 11:06 pm

Well good job Jack***, we have another slave of the Critics Union.

When we post up timelines so people can better understand the story backround, you spam. When we post up mecha pages for our Gundam and Code Geass fanfics, you guys spam us.

Sorry if I missed discussion of this, but what happened to the “Complete” that used to appear after Complete stories? I know people were worried about visual clutter, but I found that to be the most useful info of all. When you find an author who you like, it’s great to go back and read their other work, but it’s horrible when you get to the end of a story and realize its incomplete and hasn’t been updated since 2002. I know you can sort by completed stories in the general sort, but as far as I can tell there’s no way to look within a specific author for which of their stories are completed, is there?

  25. dr.girlfriend

Oops, I should clarify that the issue with “Complete” not being displayed on Authors’ story listing pages is specific to the mobile site.

Actually it does show on the mobile site. Beside the number of reviews found to the right of the story title, there will be a paper icon to indicate that a story is complete. The word ‘complete’ isn’t written probably due to the size of the screen when using the mobile site. πŸ™‚

I don’t use the mobile site, but that is actually a pretty cool feature. It is much clearer then simply saying complete, and they’ve got that little idicator that something is a crossover. That said, they also don’t have cover art over at that site. So… I guess if someone really wants to not have to worry about cover art they need only use the other site. But it can’t be as simple as that.

      • MMC

        10/16/2012 at 12:15 am

@yemi hikari: No offense, yemi, but from your last two sentences, I can’t help but feel as if you are mocking me because I’ve brought up the button for cover art thing a few times in some of my previous posts. =/ If that was not your intention, I apologize. Sometimes what you write, IMO, has a bit of a passive-aggressive thing going on and I found it a coincidence that you brought it up under my post.

That being said, no, that not a problem at all. However, I actually like the defaults for when your on the computer and when your on a phone/tablet–I’m pretty much used to seeing either format when it’s ‘appropriate’ I guess. Sure I can press a button and everything changes, but to be honest (and this could just be me), it’s weird reading on the mobile site when I’m on the computer. If I had to use the mobile site on the computer or the regular site on the phone in vise versa, then I’d rather FFN stick with one kind of default instead. I’m not saying it’s a hassle, but it wouldn’t make sense for me to do that kind of switching just to ‘hide’ the cover art. I’m not against having the cover art there on the regular site, but having the option to turn them off with a button – if you’re a logged in user if you still want to ensure the cover art feature is still being used in a way – wouldn’t hurt anyone. It was just a suggestion that I personally wouldn’t mind seeing if it’s taken into consideration.

@ MMC – While I do remember that you brought up the subject, I was simply bringing it up as a possible solution for some people. I liked the suggestion that was made before for people who didn’t like the cover art, but if I remember correctly it also collected cookies and information, something that some people do not like. So, it is another solution for people to use until the cover art can be turned on and off. If I was more knowledgeable about the mobile site I think I would have brought it up sooner too, but I rarely if ever use it.

I’m not quite sure where to put this where anyone would see it – as I’ve also emailed support but got no response.

Is there any possible way that the forum censors will be back in action again on Fictionpress? I know that once the forums used to censor some adult language and everything if the main moderator so chose to use that feature, but nowadays the censors seem to not be working anymore? Is there a work around for this or does anyone know if it will ever be fixed?
