And the front page of still shows no updates for desktop computers. It makes it look like you do nothing to support it (which isn’t true, but impressions are still pretty important.)

That plus the fact that he has yet to bother unveiling the “surprise” he promised was coming this month. I’m doubting more and more its even coming. If it isn’t here by the time midnight PST rolls around (because I know know Xing is in California), I’m calling him on undelivered promises. He promised us this surprise last month, then told us at the end of the month it wasn’t ready, then promised it’d be out end of this month. I’m inclined to believe otherwise at this point, but am willing to give the benefit of the doubt. For a time.

Eh…look at all of those updates though. Xing might be a day late or two, but the updates are always a good sign that he’s trying his best to get the surprise on time. Programming is a tricky thing, there will always be bugs within the codes. I am guessing that he is trying, along with his programmers and admins, to make it as close to perfect as it can be.

So, in my opinion, he deserves some wee bit slack. So far he’s holding to his promise and making all kinds of update to get ready for the big surprise. *shrugs*

        I’m just saying.

@ Lurker – I’ve seen many sites roll out a bunch of minor updates and fixes right before they make a big update simply because it means that they can make sure that the bugs that crop up aren’t related to the big update that occurs. So the fact they’re trying to make some minor tweeks here and there is actually a good thing.

I agree with Lurker. I’d rather Xing take his time and do it right that rush out a big update full of bugs. Besides, introducing new features when there are existing bugs is a recipe for disaster. I’m willing to be patient. šŸ™‚

Like Lurker and and Yemi, it’s not that there isn’t an update coming, it’s just that this stuff takes time, it’s lots of programming, and Xing needs to get all the little bugs before he rolls out this major update.

M.Uchman, have patience. It’s a virtue after all, if my notes on the subject of Christian sin and virtue are anything to go off of. Eh… whatever floats your boat.

The updates are okay, but how do block the stupid ads? The ad blocker button is gone. Those ads are annoying and potientially virus carriers.

Is this why when I click on my name to go to my profile it says Login / Sign Up but treats me as logged in still and won’t expand any tabs?

@Yemi, isn’t that what I just said? O_o; I just said that the updates indeed are the good sign because it meant they are working on the big update. That’s all.

It is late in my timezone, so I might’ve gotten your comment confused. If that was the case, then you have my apologizes.

Anyway, I have high hopes that, even if it may be a day late or even a week, Xing and the team will fulfill the promises. šŸ™‚

Maybe after the surprise, he can actually get on fixing the typos on the front page of fanfictiondotnet, updating the much needed information regarding to the rules, and work on improving the reporting system at last. Not necessary in that order of course. There are probably more, I am sure, but I can’t remember any other right off the top of my head.

I’m also curious if they will ever fix those typos. šŸ™‚ I get a good chuckle when I glance over them. For what it’s worth, here are the ones that stand out to me.

      1) “Looking a free software to write up your story to publish?” — That should read: “Looking for free software…”

      2) “The more you are you involved in the community, the more exposure you will receive.” — “The more you are involved…”

      3) “Makes sure you computer, tablet, or phone has the correct time set.” — This one scores double points. šŸ™‚ “Make sure your…”

Now watch Muphry’s Law (misspelling intentional) take effect and count the typos in my own post, lol.

Hahah, that is true! šŸ˜€ Hope they will fix those silly typos soon.

@Lurker: It looks like they fixed all but one. šŸ™‚ There is still a “Makes sure to set your…”

Yes and no. While you did say it was a sign that they are working on a big update you didn’t explain why it tends to be a sign. Pretty much while you and I know what we know about computer programming, the process involves as well as the whys others do not. I should have added …and at the beginning though so you did’t think my comment was directed at you when I was trying to add to what you said. So sorry. šŸ˜›

@Yemi, ah, I see. I got confused, so I am sorry too. Thank you for clearing that up! šŸ™‚

My homepage is not working correctly, Iā€™m not able to access anything in the control panel.

I had the same problem with Raven. It takes awhile to login, and when I finally did, I can’t access anything on the main menu at the homepage, even the PM.

MY problem sounds the same Raven’s and Foetide… but I am also having trouble on forums…
I am having multiple problems on the site…. On forums I no long can enter a line between my writing, and the choices of bold print and inline left, right etc. are not appearing. Next when I go to my profile to look at a PM or Story status, the options on the left hand are present but when clicked nothing changes, meaning no pop down menu. I find this a large issue as to trying to use my email for everything can be a hassle. Accepting any advice that may help. Thanks.

Well..its now halfway into March 1st. Still no surprise. Then again, I’m not surprised. Sure, Xing broke his promise to us all, but you guys are probably right. these minor updates and whatnot might be bug fixes intended for the big surprise which we will hopefully see…whenever, if ever. I can be patient for another day or so, but after that I’m simply going to not expect anything.

    • Lurker

      03/01/2013 at 3:26 pm

:/ No need to be negative. I do expect they will be few days late, but with all of those efforts, I’d say it is well worth the wait.

They did send out numbers of updates…Quite lots of them, actually.

      03/01/2013 at 4:35 pm

Personally I wouldn’t start worrying about them having broken their promise until we suddenly get a string of no updates and no surprise.

      03/03/2013 at 2:54 pm

My, my. Why so pouty? This doesn’t qualify as a “broken promise.” Just have some maturity. You said you’ll be patient for another day or so. What does that mean? What are you going to do after that? If the surprise is unveiled a month from now, are you not going to want it anymore? Surprises are even greater when you wait for them. I’m confident that everyone is working hard. Can’t rush perfection after all. I’m still pumped up about it! Some people love suspense!
