Compatibility Update

20 Mar

We have resolved some issues with our last update and this post has been created to be the central list for problem reporting and fix announcements.

Note that browser compatibility is very difficult due to different os, screen resolution, device type, and browser vendor but we have already resolved some of the first reported problems and are working hard to knock off the rest shortly.

If you are having browsing problem and the issue  is not part of the list below, remember to include your screen resolution, browser, and os version so we can better understand the underlying cause.

I don’t know if anyone has already said this, but when I have the dark theme/contrast turned on, the summary and links stay the same colors and it’s hard/annoying to read

I can’t use the styles or textures when posting on either FFN or FP, the font is still really light grey, my posts won’t space out and allow me to use the enter key, and when I try to edit posts, the “” stuff appears, making this really hard on forums I moderate on.

My browswer is IE 9; the resolution is 1366×738; and I think the os(Not sure what this is, but I’ve seen a few comments elsewhere with this.) is Windows 7?

Frosty, I’m also on IE9 and Windows 7, resolution 1024 x 600, and it looks great from where I am. I’ve done a couple of forum posts, uploaded a document to Doc Manager, browsed some stories and checked my stats and PMs, all with no trouble.

Bienfat, besides the posting, none of that is a problem, and really, the only thing I need to be fixed is the posting issue. I don’t know if it’s FFN’s updates, or if it’s just because of something my laptop is doing(I’m really bad with tech stuff. :’D), but it’s a problem on forums I moderate on. It’s good that you’re not having any issues, but I am, and I’m pointing it out to those that could potentionally fix it, if it’s related to the updates, which I’m not entirely sure on.

Frosty, I understand what you are saying. I just thought that mentioning what mine was doing might help to isolate the problem. I apologise if I offended you by trying to help/

Bienfait, you didn’t offend me. I just didn’t understand what you were trying to say, so I tried to clarify. I’m sorry if it seemed like I was angry or irritated.

Oh look, a bunch of wieners complaining about the new site. This is what happens 90% of the time when a website updates. Personally, I don’t care one way or the other, though I do think the “new” site looks sleeker. Keep it or change it back, I have no qualms with either. I think people have forgotten that patience is a virtue.

I still find the font extremely small and find changing to lower resolutions does not help. I have to zoom the screen to at least 125% to even start to help.

    IE 9.0.8112.16421
    Windows 7
    Resolution: 1920 × 1080

I have an issue with the new style. I can’t use the “filter” anymore, the pointer isn’t working so for example (in order to be understood, because I’m not fluent in English), I can’t :
    – on the main page, choose the rating, choose by statuts, by genre and so on.
    – I can’t update any of my story for the same issue.

Whenever there is a “table colonn” which means a proposition with “pointers/arrows” in order to help us to pick among several choices, I’m cliking on it, and nothing appears. It stars on, for example “time range : all” and I cannot do anything.

I have MAC OS SAFARI v5.

I hope you can help me, If you have more specific question, don’t hesitate,
    thanks a lot,

For me the problem I have had over Windows 8 and Firefox is if switched to white the words remain white and cannot be read. The boxes for favorites, authors and etc. no longer exist. Advertisements on the bottom can be pushed to the side. Small things that make me miss the older style even if it didn’t line up with the screen.

I’ve noticed that if a user leaves a review — and — follows my story, I only get an e-mail for the review but not the follow. Is that an intended change or a bug?

For me, within the last day or so, the box that appears once you click the “Follow/Favorite” button has started to only show the check-boxes and not the words that would let you identify whether you had followed or favorite the author/story. I currently use Firefox 19.0.2

The strikethrough option for forum posts is gone. Is that intentional?

Both story and author pages now ignore changes made in the browser’s default font size setting, which was not the case prior to the Fontastic updates. Since the PPI of my monitor and my laptop are not the same, this creates difficulties when I switch between them because I have to resize each tab’s text manually, either through the browser’s increase/decrease font function, or, for stories (but not author pages) Fanfiction’s increase/decrease font function.
    Resolution: 1920 x 1200, browser: Safari 5.1.7, OS: Mac OS X 10.7.5

Same issue as above, but with the added twist of there being no way to manually increase the font size on the author pages (I’m not counting zooming in where you need to drag back and forth on each line).
Resolution: 1024 x 600, browser: Blackberry Browser, OS: Blackberry Tablet OS

    Otherwise, it’s a useful change.
