Um… am I missing something? Where does one go to change the font? Where it used to be (at the top of the story), it now only gives the option of making it bigger or smaller. I don’t see it in my account either at first glance.

In itself I’m ever so happy to have the old font and size back for the stories, but if possible (I’m not sure if it is), I’d like to change back the font to Verdana on the entire site. Can we do that with this update? and if so, where?

It’s the “T” icon. I’m guessing it stands for “Typeface.”

For the site UI it’s the double “A” icon. Tbh, they should use the same icon for both things, to keep it consistent.

Actually, I came back here to announce that I had discovered it by now (my eye suddenly fell on those two A’s in the top bar I’d never seen there before – and boy, am I happy to have the good old familiar Verdana back everywhere! Thanks ever so much, Xing!!!), but thanks for enlightening me so quickly, Dataz!

Small issue with the new pop-up for the Follow/Favorite button in a story. The font color is dependent on the story body font color.

This means, that the pop-up’s font color will be white when reading with a dark background.

This is brilliant – so many fonts, so many options. The only thing that would make this better would be being able to set font preferences in the login area as well.

Since this update, whatever type size I select (using A+) doesn’t stick when loading the next chapter of a story. Instead, it reverts to the smallest-sized font, thus forcing me to adjust the size each chapter. WinXP with IE8 here. I experienced this problem a couple years ago when you were doing improvements, and was able to resolve it then by logging out and deleting all FFN Cookies. Tried that this time; no help.

Still having problems with the font. When I make it larger it only last for what I am reading. On the next chapter it goes small again.

TBH, I dont like this new font option. I hate mobile versions of websites and always choose full website on my iphone, but now the font size keeeps getting smaller and smalller and smaller….. It’s so tiny on my phone now that I cant see. I see where to make font bigger on the stories, but the UI cant be seen. Am I missing something?

The biggest problem is that every time I refresh the page or switch to a new screen the font resets. That, and the way the default font has the words running over each other keeps this from feeling like a succesful update.

I can change the font, but now none of the other story settings work, including the font size. Running Firefox 3.0.10 on Windows 2000. I don’t really care about adjusting the font size, but now that the story width setting stopped working, all the fics I open are set to full width by default.

I thing this is really good idea: everyone would have the possibility to use its favorite font-family.
However, each time I change the page (refreshing or change chapter/etc.) the font change and I have to repeat the same operation…
Yet I repeat you find a pretty good solution, except this light problem. Good job! (and thank you for it)

I think its a great idea although the only problem i see is that when you change the page (change chapters or refreshing) you need to go through the same process as you did before. I love how everything is changed, however I would love to save my page settings for multiple other pages instead of changing it everytime you leave the page.

This is aweful. It does not save your preferences and each time you click on a new story or new chapter within the story it goes not to teeny tiny font with no spacing! This is NOT improvement!!!

I do see it as an improvement but only in the area of allowing a wider selection of fonts to choose from. I agree that it is a step backward as far as keeping all the adjustments when moving from one story to another or from one champter to another.

It works for me (Chrome) but it would be better if you could simultaneously set the size too in the pop-up window, rather than having to use the A-/A+ buttons, since it would allow you to mix sizes and fonts to something that works for you rather than first choosing the font/size and then trying to match the other. I’m not saying this to be difficult or anything but the standard font (website overall and in-story) is still too large for me and thus even the preview when choosing a font looks odd, until I’ve chosen one (verdana) and made it smaller.

Also, it would be a lot better if you could set this as standard for your account *and* apply it to everything! Because now that I finally have the font/size that allows me to read without straining my eyes (aka the standard prior to useless updates) I am still bothered by the title, author, summary etc box and the rest of the website, like story overview or my account area.

That way all the fans of the recent updates who are all so thrilled with this new look can choose to keep it like this, while everyone whose eyes are straining, burning and/or bleeding can revert to the original.

Unlike the other comments above, it does seem to save the change I made when I go to a next chapter or a different story, but I’ve only tested it with one font/size.

the chapter navigation is very bad with the changes you have made in the fonts and screens. The drop down selection is partially blocked and the chapter titles no longer display completely. You have moved the drop down too far to the right!

Okay, because of my squinting and leaning away from the screen to make the ugly new font less awful and painful to my eyes, I seem to have missed the new UI font change button. Now, I’ve set it to Verdana again and it works (and sticks), meaning the entire site is back to Verdana for me.

However, it still seems too large to me and I was wondering if you were going to add font size to it as well? It’s especially bad in the story overview and my account area when there are big chunks of text (like under the download manager or manage stories), and the account area is also still too white/bright to make it okay to look at.

I already suggested adding the font size to the “font buffet” option in an earlier post, when I was talking about the in-story button. It would be much easier to handle if the size option was available in that pop-up for both the in-story as well as UI, especially since it gives you a preview of what to expect with the changes you’re making.

Oh and I’m using Windows 7 and Chrome, plus I access the site via a bookmark. I do have two different bookmarks for story overview (in my fandom with my preferences) and my account area and both seem to work just fine with the font change, it sticks right away no matter what I try (next chapter, different stories, home page, switching between account and story overview etc).

A little while ago, while reading a chapter with the dark background, the text appeared to become less ‘crisp’ and clear. Compared to the text in the summary box, it looks less white, almost greyed out (or washed out). I tried different fonts, but no improvement. I also tried ‘mixing and matching’ use of the zoom% and the A+A- buttons, but no improvement with that either. The text in the summary box looks perfectly fine (very crisp, clear, white text).

I hope this is temporary. Since I switched to the darker background several days ago I’ve experienced less eyestrain. I should have made the switch a long time ago 🙂 I really don’t want to go back to the white background.
