Notice to .iCloud/.mac/.me Users

We have confirmed that Apple’s historically unreliable iCloud email system which service,, and emails is currently silently dropping emails and affecting our alert mail deliveries.

We want to emphasis this has nothing to do with us and everything to do with iCloud’s broken spam filtering which is well documented on the web over the last month.

If you are affected, please choose one of the following three options:

  1. Check your iCloud email account’s Junk folder for our alert emails. If you find them there, mark them as not-spam. If you do not find our emails in the Junk folder and have not received any in the past 24 hours, go to option 2 or 3.
  2. Contact Apple Care. All iCloud users are paying members and deserve a better product, and politely let them know you are unable to receive emails from and Please note the .com in Calling is the best option. If enough people complain, they will fix this problem.
  3. Hate to suggest this since we know users will resist as they have already paid for the service, but we recommend users to sign-up for  a more reliable email service such as gmail or even outlook (formerly hotmail). You heard that right, many top free email providers are much better than iCloud and this is not just only us saying this.

If enough people complain to Apple Care support regarding their email filtering issue, they just might fix it.

      The difference in this situation seems to be that Apple hasn’t done anything about the situation over the last month while the site admins tried to get the problem taken care of as soon as possible. At most I would say it was a week and they made updates about the status every day or two. Of course, I don’t know what the exact situation with the Apple e-mail system is though.

        I think it means pay for having the email ID, so to get an account on the apple email is for money, not fanfiction.

      @dude, it’s not necessarily “rubbish,” since Xing is just making an observation based on his experience with Apple’s email service. Consumers have the right to voice complaints or concerns about a product or service.

      I don’t see it as Apple hating.

      I’ll admit I’m not a fan of the company, but I have friends and family who swear by Apple products. They don’t go anywhere without their iPod, iPhone and/or iPad. But they have told me of experiencing issues with the iCloud system. A lot of legitimate messages get flagged as spam and automatically deleted.

      Most of the major free e-mail providers send spam to a junk folder so users can periodically check it. Once in a while mine goes haywire and marks everything as spam, but I don’t lose messages permanently.

      Ironic how a certain someone, which frowns upon a single spelling mistake, can’t even fully read the Content Guidelines.

      “No one is perfect but it is the duty of the writer to perform to the best of his/her ability.” Xing did but as they state, no one is perfect.

      So he spelled the word wrong. Does it really matter?

        Spyridon, it does matter because stories have been yanked for silly things like bad spelling, etc. It’s even listed as a report option. Sounds hypocritical to me.

        Actually, I don’t think it’s the spelling that is the issue; this is not the first time this exact same error was made in one of the blogs (I’ve commented on it and other mistakes previously). Looks to me like Xing (and many, many other people) simpy doesn’t know the difference between “affect” and “effect”, which really is quite sad for a writing site.

        @ Majestic Kitten – The stories that have been pulled for bad spelling are ones that obviously didn’t bother to use spell check. The particular spelling error you pointed out is not one that can be caught by using spell check, so he is not being hypocritical.

        @ fems – I honestly disagree. I personally think its sad that people make such a big deal about mistakes that are common spelling mistakes. It’s fine mind you to point out the mistake, but it isn’t o.k to do it in such a way that a person feels like a complete idiot for making said mistake, because there are logical reasons why people make the common spelling mistakes they do and because of this they are not the kind of mistake a person is necessarily going to notice.

        @Majestic Kitten: As others have said, petty much? Really, CU isn’t doing anything against site rules, they’re reporting stories that break site rules. You may not agree with it but when it comes down to it, they are mostly doing it because they *do* care about writers and want to help them improve. Maybe it’s not in they way you want to improve but for some authors, it’s how they need to improve. They also do it to keep the site clean which is actually a very good thing.

        @ Majestic Kitten – Actually, I’m someone who struggles with grammar and spelling and I choose to not put up with people who like to rub a persons grammar mistakes in their faces just to make people feel bad about themselves. It doesn’t matter if that person is Xing or not. That also said, I don’t think you have room to complain about CU as you seem to think rubbing a persons grammar mistakes in their faces to make them feel bad isn’t wrong. Unlike you the CU isn’t doing it to make people feel bad. They’re trying to help.

        I think what’s bugging people, Majestic Kitten, is that (a) this is not so much like the story archives, it’s more like the forums, where from what I’ve seen spelling errors are rampant, but nobody is made to feel silly over them; and (b) it was a minor error, Xing’s intent was clear, but you still couldn’t resist making a snide little cheap shot about it. Frankly, it says a great deal about the kind of person you are.

        And before you start, I’m not involved, or even remotely interested, in the activities of Critics United; unless authors are posting hardcore MA material, I don’t care how many rules they break.

      Ironic how someone is judging the creator of the sites you use for free under a “anon” name. You think of “frowns upon bad spelling in stories” as a thing where if a person even misspells the word “even” then they can get reported. The most common thing reported is stories such as:

      “Y’all kno imma be bustin it in herez. this my stori thx all my fanz:
      jo-jo wents to tha bathroom to go there. thx”

      Mind not reporting that? It’s been said before, stories that just boast that it’s author doesn’t use a spell-checker is what I would report.

      And, to let you know, Critics United does not “spoil the writing experience”. They help and judge. They enforce the rules, though not needed as they were not asked to, and it comes off a bit harshly (I’ve read some of their reviews. Not nice. Not pretty.), they eventually makes it easier for people to read. I know you wouldn’t want to go onto a category and read the story above. Your bringing them into this had no effect.

      And before you do actually say something, I am not associated with them except for that one time and me and Critics United have no business what-so-ever with each other at the moment.

      Oh, and by the way, your disliking of that one rule just hints at the fact that you have had a story removed because of that. I’m not trying to accuse and judge, I just wanted to let you know. Don’t take it the wrong way.

    I’m glad Yahoo is not on the list. Yahoo is good most of the time, but is delayed by a few seconds to a few hours sometimes. very rare I would not receive anything from them. Must be the new formats they plugged in cause the look changed recently.

    On a way more important note, I’m looking forward to April. Would it be possible to have update system for the stories? DA has a system where if you retouch an image or file on the site, you can highlight a box that asks if this is a major update which differs from correcting a small aspect. It would be helpful for authors who do a massive overhaul on previous chapters. Of course, this isn’t for small things such as correcting a single word or touching a few lines here and there but for updates where scenes are added, extended, deleted, etc.

    On the flip side, I can potential for authors to abuse this so I’m wondering what the other readers’ take on this.

    And if you do implement this, the box would have to be unchecked. Puts the burden on the author to check it.

      While I love your idea and was going to second it, I unfortunately got to thinking of all the ways people can abuse this particular feature as I read farther and you mentioned minor updates. Because goodness knows some of the writers I’ve come across would go and do this for a few small changes. I can see some getting a negative review and the update being an author’s rant attached to certain chapters.

      That said, despite the fact I don’t think it is a good idea and feel it would to easily be abused, I also thought about how the site admins could allow for new reviews if such an “update” was allowed, but that… oh goodness that would lead to even more abuse, particularly from writers who want to get new reviews any way that they can. Sad really that people would abuse something that is a wonderful idea really.

        Yeah, the only thing that would stop the abuse would be to have the ability to alert to new edits/updates removed permanently or something but I don’t know that would affect the running of the site.

    With iCloud,, & is all the same system now. How iCloud works for Junk Mail, it sorts most by what is know junk mail, but i has a flaw of getting emails in the Junk Mail Box now and again. What the user needs to do is make sure to not place as junk & check every so often that there are no emails in the junk that should not be there. It is like any other email provider in that respect for Mail.
    If you are a Mac user & receive emails using the Mac Mail program, then the settings for the Junk Mail box come from the settings on the server. Mac Mail App will learn behaviors of what type of emails are junk & what are not junk.
    Also iCloud is free if one has an Apple Device & a free Apple ID (used with iTunes). The other way of getting a free iCloud account is to have access to an Apple Device that is internet cable & signing into iCould through the setting on that device.
    The reason that iCloud seems to have so many issues is because it is a big service still getting fully up off the ground. is not just used for emails. Learn more at:

    Personally, I have never had any issues with losing email no mater who they are from, including Junk emails. I even have all my emails forward to my account & I have never lost a single email between anything. The only issue with forwarding to my account is that fact that it takes about 3 extra minutes to receive emails from the account that is forwarding to.

    How about YOU ‘politely let them know’ something is amiss? Wouldn’t it carry more weight coming from the company? And isn’t that your responsibility? I don’t have problems with any other alert service using my .mac email address — except this one. Clearly there’s something weird on your end, too. Why not advocate for your loyal users and officially contact them to work out the problem? Putting the onus on those of us with this email address is terrible. I feel like I’m dealing with Comcast “the customer is always wrong.”

      It’s not the admins’ job to fight everyone’s battle. If you have a faulty email service, wouldn’t you want to fix it? If you’re too lazy to fix it, then it deserves to stay broken. I suppose I should ask Zing to email AOL for having all my fanfiction emails sent to spam?

      YOU are responsible for your own email account. Chances are, the email service is blocking emails from other places, too. Not just fanfic. As the account holder, it’s your job to notify the correct support team. That’s the only way to fix it.

        I don’t have a ‘faulty email service.’ It’s worked perfectly fine for the 7 years I’ve had the account. I get auto-alerts from all sorts of sites, not just this one, and they all work flawlessly. There was never a problem until updated the site recently. Nothing is blocked, nothing is going to spam. It just doesn’t work. Clearly there’s an issue with and — so what is so ridiculous about asking that the ADMINS work it out together? I got the exact response that I figured I would from Apple — that if there’s been a software update on the end, the admins need to talk to Apple about what’s wrong.

        I completely agree! I’ve never had a problem for 8 years! I’ve even added “” to my VIP list to see if that could resolve any problems. We shall see. needs to get off their high horse and just call Apple and see what’s up instead of blaming this entire thing on their members faulty spam folders.

        Wow. Saying that it can’t be your e-mail service because its worked fine for as long as it has is like saying that an internet browser should work just fine because you’ve used it for such a long time and there is no need to have it updated to the newer version. Sites, browsers, operating systems as well as e-mail providers all need to keep their stuff up to date so it is compatible with the latest stuff.

      I don’t think any site admin of any site sending them an e-mail would carry much weight in this matter. I doubt the site admins would have said something like this unless they tried everything on their end first, so while it does indeed coincide with the latest update, the reason for the e-mails not going through may very well have nothing to do with said update.

      I honestly don’t see a problem with the person who is using the email provider (Apple or whoever) to send an email themselves. THEY are the ones using the email service in the first place, not FFN. I don’t use the Apple email service nor was I ever aware that they even had an email service, but if FFN had been trying to fix the email problem in the first place concerning MANY email providers, why is it such a bad thing that they SUGGEST users with an Apple email address to help voice out the problem to Apple themselves? FFN have tried to find a way to fix the interrupted service with Apple’s email service, but – and as seen in this blog – they’ve had no success. So if FFN exhausted the troubleshooting issue, it’s suddenly JUST their fault?

      If you made your own website, decided to change something about it, but people who have been using your website suddenly have problems and complained to you, you’d want to fix the problem right? Of course you would, so you do; spending time out of your day (perhaps longer) to try and figure out this problem. You’re coming out with nothing, your coding and protocols are all working as they should, and you’ve exhausted every option. So now, you’re going down your list of problem solving methods and perhaps think it’s an outside source (a third party) that probably isn’t working with what you’ve done with your site after trying to do some troubleshooting with that third party source. Perhaps there isn’t much you can do any more to fix the problem on YOUR end, so you’re only asking your users to politely send an email to the people using said third party’s services. An email. Not a phone call or anything difficult. Just an EMAIL. But lo and behold, your users don’t want to see it as a problem that may be caused by a third party and just want to blame you because YOU decided to change something about the website you pay to host and basically have the power to do whatever you see fit with it. How would you honestly feel about that because you have been trying for the last few days (and by that extent, having your devs exhaust themselves out) to make people happy again?

      Sure, maybe there are still buggy things going on that we aren’t exactly aware of, but give Xing and his staff a bit of credit for even trying to fix the problem for nearly the past 1-2 weeks with a lot of email providers. They are just asking people to help move the solution along and even gave out suggestions in the mean time until the problem can be 100% fixed.

    Using hotmail and comcast here. I’ve had no problems receiving emails for the past 8 years or so and both are with free providers. (Goodness… has it really been that long? I feel old now and I’m only 21) Granted you have to actually have comcast to use their email service, I believe, but my hotmail email is as old as my account with this site.

    It’s not hating on Apple, Their products are amazing and everything, but not every company is perfect, and each one has its flaws. That they’re doing nothing to correct the problem is troubling, especially since it is a paid service, but perhaps they also do not know what is wrong with the service? There are many sides to each situation, and no one is infallible.

    It could also just be an incompatibility between this update and apple’s servers. Lord knows that things like that ALWAYS happen between Apple and other systems. Take MyFordTouch and Apple products, they DO NOT get along, and eventually the music on your Ipod/Itouch/Iphone ends up getting corrupted. (It’s happened to my mom more than enough times. I just opted to put my music on a flash drive to avoid the problem altogether. There’s O.S. on a flashdrive, and so, no craziness between the two).

    Point being, there is no way to know who is at fault, and who isn’t. There could be one small coding issue, and Apple would likely reject it. Or the coding could be correct, but Apple is having buggy issues. Or it could be both compounding the situation. There’s no need to get pissy with FF when they’re trying to rectify the situation. And they also suggested to politely point out the situation to Apple. Between the two, someone should be able to come up with a solution, so until then, everyone just needs to chill out and be patient.

    We’re not paying for FF, and they’re doing a damned good job with updates and making things better for us even though they really don’t have to.

    As an iCloud email address user, I find this announcement strange. In the past, I have never had trouble receiving email from FF.Net with my iCloud email account. Problems appear on the site, and I suddenly find that email is not making it to me. If this were a problem with the iCloud email service, why is it that I have never before endured such deafening silence? As this problem hit the FF.Net community as a whole, I find it highly unlikely that a continuing problem can be traced back to Apple. This issue originated after your update, and as this issue is ongoing for certain users, appears to remain uncorrected.

    Giving your suggestions an attempt, I did contact Apple customer service. After a twenty minute discussion, my belief that this issue can and will be traced back to FF.Net software is reinforced to a great degree.

      Hi Alex,

      I too have contacted Apple support, and Apple informed me that is the company that have to contact Apple, rather than us iCloud users. As the problem is either with or with a setting that they have in emails being sent to Apple, for Apple to reject them.

      I’ve been using iCloud, back when it was .mac mail, and then mobileMe and never once had any problems with or Apples’ mail service, till now.

      I wonder if use SPF for email validation, that would help as I think Apple uses this as well and may reject emails which do not contain the SPF information.

      I agree with this, I have never had any problem with my iCloud email in receiving emails until after the update, so I don’t think it’s fair to blame this on Apple.

    I’ve got a question. If someone has added my story to a community and I don’t want it to be there, is there any way to get it removed if the community owner won’t do it?

      Unfortunately, the most you can do is ask the person running the community to remove it. I find that strange though that the person running it won’t adhere to the request of the writer. Maybe if the community has staff, they’d be able to remove the story for you?

        The community has no staff apart from the owner, and the owner doesn’t accept pm’s. It’s not that I’m not flattered by their interest, but the archive is for slash, and my story isn’t slash-related (it has a gay OC, but nothing is going to happen), so I’m worried that readers who find it there will be in for a disappointment.

        I wonder whether authors should have the right to withhold their stories from community archives?.

    Right, I’m an iCloud user (dont hate me :P) I;ve just contacted Apple, in regards to the alerts being blocked.

    What I’ve been told is that the end user (i.,e. me) can not contact Apple in order to ge this resolved.

    The admins at should have gotten an email from Apple apparantly when their email servers were bouncing all the emails to icloud users. In that email was how the admins could contact Apple in order to resolve the issue and allow the emails to be sent to icloud users unhindered.

    So, I’ve been told by Apple (I can provide my Apple support call ref if needed) that the admins for needs to contact Apple support directly toi resolve the issue, as its having the problem and not the end-user (icloud customer).

    Sorry I just contact apple and was told that the admins need to contact apple themselves — not us! So this is on you not us. I refuse to get a free email account, when this is a simple fix on your side. Get it together!!! I have never had this problem until you started doing all these massive updates!! This is ridiculous!!!!

      You sound ridiculous. You can’t trust one given source unless you know the full story which includes both sides of it. A lot of email providers and even just a lot of companies won’t change anything unless they find themselves faced with everyone leaving and that they might have to shut down. Now of course Apple wouldn’t have to close it’s doors if many people up and left iCloud but it would stand out to Apple that they may need to change iCloud.

      Do you know whether Xing or someone from the staff tried to contact Apple with nothing to show for it?

      Also, what’s with all the !!!!s? 1 of them gets your point across.

        Oh I dont know, there are three iCloud customers who have replied to this blog post, including myself who have all contacted Apple and had the same thing more or less said to each of us.

        Apple have stated its not our problem, but ff.nets. As such, needs to contact Apple inorder to resolve the issue. Its the email that their servers are sending to Apples, and its the Apple servers who are rejecting it for something.

        So, needs to contact Apple, and work with them in order to resolve the problems. We (icloud customers) do not have any say on what Apple does or not, in regards to another entities email.

        @ Andrew – There is a comment from another user that pretty much solidifies that the problem is on Apple’s end. Apple’s trying to shift the blame onto another site because the more people know about their horrible filtering system the more business they are going to lose. Do a search using icloud “faulty filtering system” and you’ll find out exactly what the issue is.

    I find that actually, Outlook is better than gmail. I found that through gmail, I never got review alerts, off and on alerts when my story got favourited or put on someone’s alerts, and it would sometimes tell me if something on my alerts got updated. Outlook has always worked better for me on anything. If you decide take Xing’s advice, I recommend Outlook over Gmail but that’s just based on my experience.

    When you contact Apple, remember to ask about their silent filtering system. I wasn’t receiving certain alerts from ffnet either, but that was because of the story’s summary. It wasn’t even an inappropriate summary. It just happened to have the word explosion in it.

    This may not be the problem you all are having, but iCoud is known for its extreme spam filters.

    Apple support told me there’s no way for me to disable their silent filters, so I switched to a free email service and have had zero problems since.

      This tells me is that the problem is on Apple’s end and not’s. The fact they’re telling users that needs to contact them is them trying to cover up the fact they are not willing to fix the problem and are trying to instead shift the blame.

        Apple don’t seem to have a very strong grasp of customer service these days. Basically they want to suck their customers dry of every penny that can be wrung out of them, and give back as little as possible in return. Australians have been asking for some time why the same software is priced so much higher here than overseas, and Apple’s answer boils down to “because we can”.

        Good luck getting them to fix anything that doesn’t work. That’s not part of their corporate spirit.

        @One of Three – Unless I’m missing something, I don’t see a significant pricing disparity between Apple software prices in the US and Australia. OS X Mountain Lion for example is priced at 19.99 USD in the US and 20.99 AUD in Australia, the equivalent of 21.86 USD currently. That’s a 9% higher list price in Australia, but my understanding is that the Australian prices include a 10% sales tax (GST). The US prices don’t include sales tax, but Apple collects sales tax at the time of purchase based on the customer’s billing address. Excluding tax, it appears that Apple software actually costs slightly more in the US than in Australia. So your comment seems unfair to me.

        @One of Three – Thanks for the link. I am frustrated with differences in price and availability from country to country as well. But according to the article, it’s Microsoft and Adobe who are pricing some of their software much higher in Australia than in the US, not Apple. Apple was only asked about its resale of music, movies and TV shows published by other companies, and it gave an unsurprising response. Music, movie and TV show companies charge Apple higher prices in Australia for their offerings, so Apple sets the retail price higher. That’s not unreasonable — just how retail works.

        This seems like a case (both the article and the underlying government inquiry) where Apple’s name is used mainly to grab attention, and it’s others (Microsoft, Adobe, and the music, movie and TV companies) whose pricing decisions are actually at issue.

    Is there a way to report ads on It’s against the rules to upload an “adult/provactive image”, but I unfortunately see many provocative images in the ads. Recently, an ad for Scarlet Blade keeps popping up. The ad shows a naked woman with only a few ribbons drapped over her. In past, I’ve also seen an ad that had two naked anime characters with one of them falling on the other. I understand that the administrators probably don’t screen the ads before they appear on the site, but I’d love to stop seeing them over and over again.

    By the way, “provocative” is misspelled as “provactive” on the Profile Avatar page.

      I couldn’t agree more with this suggestion. I think it is way worse to have an image of a naked woman and adult toys flash across my computer screen than it is to have a story with dirty words hidden amongst its text. People generally can’t see what I’m reading, but they can certainly see the ads!

      Normally, it’s an ad for an online game or an ebook, but once and a while something completely inappropriate pops up. I don’t understand why those ads are allowed to be displayed, but MA stories aren’t. I think if MA stories are deleted, then so should MA advertisements. Sometimes the ads make me so mad because they are usually very sexist. It’s a huge distraction to whatever story I’m trying to read.

      I agree with having a way that we can report an ad to the site admins so they can report it to their ad provider. I also wish there was a way to report certain images as well.

      I wish we could report ads, too. I don’t mind allowing them for FFN since it’s a way to support the site, but I’m getting tired of the scantily clad girls on video games ads, the t-shirt ads that focus on giant breasts and the few political ads that sneak in.

      The ads for books, publishers, etc. don’t bother me a bit. Same for the DC Comics, Star Wars, Fandango and tastefully done video game/clothing ads.

      I’m going to add that I just saw the ad for Scarlet Blade and its honestly worse then I imagined. I really suggest that the site admins report that particular ad to the company providing the ads, because this is supposed to be a site for thirteen and up.

    Welp, I contacted Apple, just as instructed, and was informed that this isn’t a resolvable issue with me (the user) and that admins need to contact them to get it resolved. So again, I say, why can’t you advocate for us? The alerts silence began when this site updated last week. Clearly something is amiss on this end as well. Why not work together to fix it? I tried my part.

      It’s typical bureaucratic B.S. in today’s world, where the “little people” are getting the run around from those higher ups and nothing will ever get done for us. I did what asked and I called applecare. Now it’s time that did something for us and called apple themselves.

        I think both of you need to read the comment Tap left. What they said makes if very obvious that the problem is on Apple’s end and not the site and even if were to contact Apple the company is going to choose to screw you guys over on this one.

        Truth be told though, alarm bells went off that Apple’s trying to screw their customers over as soon as you said they told you that you shouldn’t be the ones contacting them, it needs to be the site admins at This is the only e-mail provider I know of that has told the users of their e-mail system this, all the others will take the time to contact the site in question to resolve the problem.

        You don’t understand. iCloud isn’t only interrupting messages from fanfiction. I tried to email myself from gmail and certain messages just disappeared. If I hadn’t been sending them myself, I would have never known I was losing any emails.

        For all the people who say they are iCloud users, then you should already be aware of the iCloud outages. Even if you were the lucky few who weren’t affected, Apple still sent a mass apology letter. Either you deleted that email or (ironically) it was silently dropped. If you honestly never had problems with iCloud before, just Google it. Many people are furious about their emails disappearing and none of them mentioned anything about fanfiction. Apple had already acknowledged that they’re having problems. I contacted their support team and they promised that they were working on a solution, but they had also told me that back in September and again in February.

        I can understand people not wanting to sign up for a new email address just so you can receive fanfiction alerts, but there’s a good chance you’re losing other messages too and don’t even know it.

        I can honestly say I have never missed any mail that I wanted untill ff updated

        So also what people are doing is making it seem like apple is the only company to ever mess anything up in the email area… Google has had problems, yahoo, pretty much all of them have at one time or another… Any ways I never got that email because I have a rule set on my mail to delete all apple stuff unless it is from the one they use for passwords

        Chances are is that the people you looked at may not have been a ff person who was subscribed

        I still think that they should just work it out and get it over with, I now have five gmails for junk and one for ff until they fix the problem

        But you wouldn’t know if you were missing messages. That’s what users are complaining most about. You don’t get notified when Apple drops an email. It’s just gone. The reason you know why you’re not receiving ffnet messages is because you’re expecting them. There could be unexpected messages you lost and you don’t even know it.

        I politely disagree. Reading through these comments every day seems to suggest that people are constantly trying to make Ffnet look like the bad guy. However, Apple has already publicly acknowledged that they drop messages. Ffnet has been keeping us up to date. You’re right when you say Google, Yahoo, etc have all had their problems, but does that mean we constantly blame Ffnet for it?

        You are right. If Ffnet and Apple could work together to fix the problem, then that would be best. I just don’t think it’s that simple. There are iCloud users who are getting their fanfiction alerts. Apple has some weird spam filters. There could be something in an author’s name or summary that just won’t make it through. You can’t fix that if it’s iCloud’s filter. That’s something that Apple needs to fix.

        I use my iCloud email for work. I couldn’t receive any messages from my partner McManus. Why? Well, I contacted support and it was because he had the word ‘anus’ in his name. We laugh about that all the time!

        Anyways, I wasn’t trying to offend anyone. I was just offering what information I could from my side. My point was that it’s not only ffnet subscribers who are not getting their emails. Other companies are affected as well. Apple just happens to be the common denominator. That could still be a coincidence, though.

        And I politely disagree with you to, looking thought this, people are saying that apple is crap and horrible, and I do think that it is both there faults, apples for having that stupid block and ff’s for updating the alert system to cause this problem to go large all of the sudden, not meaning to hate on ether of them

        Very few iclouders are getting the mail and I don’t get any from ff except for when I change email or password, those come through fine, ff changed something in the story and author alerts that has revealed apple problems and ff problems

        And I think apple should give a way to turn off this filter

        My dad got me my email through apple with my first laptop, I was ten and the laptop was also ten, I have never had this problem before, do you know if they added this filter in iCloud in which case I want MobileMe back

        My friend has anus as part of his email address and his sig and I have never had a dropped MSG from him, I am pretty sure of that because we will sit in a cafe and talk about them

        Same as you, I am not trying to offend anyone, and getting my side told, but this was still not a problem that was large untill ff updated its system

        Gmail is also a common denomatnator for these problems along with yahoo and all others, apples is just more talked about because people just seem to hate it or love it with no middle ground, I love some windows (best were xp and 7) but I have not had a bad software on apple… Ever,,, just some stupid blocks on there mail service

    I followed the instructions and changed my email account for FanFiction to a non-Apple, highly reliable server (my university alumni email). But I am still not receiving any alerts for reviews or PMs, although I am still getting those. Are you sure there is no problem with the alerts themselves?

      Have you checked your spam folder on that e-mail? You may have to set it as non-spam before they start showing up. I knew I had to do that when I switched e-mails a long time ago. That’s the only thing I can think of.

      I really don’t know how to explain that. I signed up with my University email years ago and I never received fanfiction alerts. Of course, I went to a crappy University. Is there anyone out there who successfully received alerts through their school email address? I’m curious now. I think I was just an unlucky student! My email seemed to only be good for emailing professors! 🙂

      Maybe you can add fanfiction to your address book?

      It is possible that there is a problem with the alerts themselves. They only fixed it a couple of days ago and said they would continue to monitor the email stream to catch any residual flaws. There might be a few kinks to work out yet.

        My uni e-mail was only used to e-mail the professors as well as other students. It is possible the system has been set up only to receive e-mails from recognized e-mail providers. honestly don’t know.

    I did what was said I called apple and they send that they were going to look it to the problem because. I wasn’t the only that has called for this and the said the would get back to me in two days so will see. But is doing anything on there part to push the to fix it as well???

    1.So, before anybody can lecture me for any grammar or spelling mistake I make, I’m sorry, but English is not my native language, I suppose you just have to live with it.

    2. I don’t know why you all make such a big deal, either or Apple took care or the problem, because I get my emails (to my and my account.).

    3. I also think is doing a great job, everything they offer is for free and for most people it’s just for fun. I agree that some writers should take more care of their grammar and spelling, but maybe they’re doing their best. If it is too annoying for anybody, well, I’d say don’t read it.

    4. I really hate smart asses, the difference between affect and effect, at least for me and a lot of people I know, is NOT easy, I’m sure they made mistakes too. More than one time, just because they don’t make mistakes in a few comments doesn’t mean they’re perfect. I can proof read a few comments, doesn’t mean I never make mistakes.

      English is my first language and even I struggle with the differences between affect and effect from time to time. I’ll pause in my writing and stare at them, wondering if I’m using the right spelling.

      I point out errors when I see them because I appreciate when others do it for me, however, there are both polite and rude ways of doing so. Sadly, it seems common courtesy is becoming obsolete.

    An important notice which basically states why one can never trust Apple fully. I don’t have it, so I won’t bother commenting on that part, which would surely label me as an Apple Hater.

    I was wondering if, like on Apple products, Android users could update from mobile too. I’d hate to delay an update when I could just do it from my phone. Though I’ve heard about how complicated Android is in programming, so I won’t be surprised if it doesn’t happen.

    To be honest no matter how you look at it, the issues with various email providers receiving alerts from only started when FF.Net altered something on their alert systems.

    Now the emails to iCloud which are affect is only the email alerts, not emails from in general. I know this because when I had to alter the main email address from to I had an email to confirm it sent to my account which was received just fine.

    Yet the alerts are not, which come from the same address,

    So this shows, its not emails from which is being blocked by Apple, but something to do with the alert system itself in how the email is handled by the Apple servers.

    Is the originating server which sends the alerts different (even IP) from the server whcih handles the email alerts?

      Except we really don’t know if the e-mail problem really did start after made the changes, or if e-mails had been getting lost when they were sent to icloud because of the filter system they have in place. Because the thing is, if you don’t know an e-mail is coming then if it is not there you are not going to notice that it never showed up like it was supppsed to. Apple honestly believes that it is in its rights as a company to censor the e-mails sent through its system, its been documented this last month

        I kept all my deleted ff emails in my trash and compared it to my alert thing on ff and they are all there untill the update
        And apple is not the only one to believe that they can do this of you remember some gmail problems 10-12 years back, they had pretty much the same thing

    I don’t have apple cloud or anything like that. I have an email run out of and up until this week, my alerts worked perfectly and had for four years. The site announced a repair at the beginning of the week but I still don’t have my alerts. I do have alternate accounts, including a gmail but the thefreesite one is my primary. I don’t mind moving my FFN mail to gmail but I really want to make sure it’s not just another internal hiccup at FFN first.
