Do you intend to process any reports during this move? I’m asking because you’ve got a plagiarist and a bot posted on yesterday’s thread, and you still have not processed “bitemehoe” from the site.
If you intend to let all reports wait until after Tuesday, please advise so we do not continue to waste our time submitting them.
09/13/2013 at 11:24 am
I’ve reported this troll since last year, and he’s still there. I suggest we wait until they finished moving.
09/13/2013 at 11:44 am
I’ve been reporting some users for years as well. It’s rare for them to not respond to the reports made directly on the blog of late, though. (Not including the fact that KiaraLivie generated over 300 replies all on her little lonesome on an older thread.) Within an hour of posting on the blog the user who put HP1 on site with the intent to defraud Ms. Rowling, that user was deleted. So I find this aberrant behavior for them since this is a public venue that they tend to monitor.
That’s why I was asking. Otherwise, they’re going to get threads full of complaints about users taking advantage of non-responsiveness.
09/15/2013 at 2:11 pm
No service outage? Has anyone tried out the fonts on Image Manager in FanFiction accounts?! I go there, click on the font icon to add words to my pictures, but guess what? No matter how many fonts I click, the font doesn’t change from the default type! Has anyone else noticed or complained about this, or is it just me? It’s been like this for over a week now! That’s too long! Is this datacenter move thing going to fix this or what?
09/13/2013 at 3:56 pm
So where is the best place to submit reports? I’ve been reporting the same people for years and nothing ever happens.
09/13/2013 at 4:46 pm
Depends on what you’re reporting as to what needs to be done. I mostly send to the support address. Sometimes I get a response. Sometimes I don’t get a response but the material is deleted.
However, if you are reporting plagiarism of your own material, I highly recommend submitting a DMCA takedown notice to the copyright address using the format provided under item eight of the terms of service.
If you’re reporting someone making threats of putting a virus on someone’s PC (Honey2me) then I would recommend submitting that to the support address and copying the FTC.
If someone has threatened physical harm against you, I recommend sending a report to your local law enforcement as well as copying the site on the issue. There was one incident with a particularly young plagiarist (HPWriter2011) who was threatened by one of the individuals he stole from.
As it turns out, they lived quite near each other. He has since been banned from the site, but he had the incredible lack of forethought to include all of his personal details on his profile (real name, location, exact date of birth). The one who threatened him has her location and first name in her profile, but has since removed her age.
If you’re reporting plagiarism of copyrighted material, I recommend copying the agent of the original author on the missive. Or, if it’s, say, Disney, copying Disney’s piracy e-mail.
So it really would depend on what precisely you’re attempting to report.
09/16/2013 at 1:54 pm
I never get a response on the support address. And the complaints I send are about people down right insulting harassing me or about stories featured graphic child molestation and rape and other obscene sexual content. Also other things like Real people fics and stuff.
09/13/2013 at 6:29 pm
heres hoping the move keeps going smoothly.
*knocks on wood*
09/13/2013 at 9:23 pm
I understand you guys are probably very busy with important updates but if you have time please resolve some abuse emails. There’s some serious plagiarism and copyright infringement going on in the trenches.
09/13/2013 at 9:35 pm
I am not able to log in right now😦

09/14/2013 at 12:47 am
If it’s no big deal, maye you could bring back the in-site Ad Blocker? Just a thought.
09/14/2013 at 1:26 am
Hey, not sure if there is supposed to be problems receiving email notifications. I am getting reviews and PMs and such, but unlike before I am not getting emails notifying about about it. I have been sure to check my spam folder, but it seems that the emails are simply not being sent. Is this an expect problem? If so, then when will it be resolved?
09/14/2013 at 5:16 am
Please delete screenplay fandom. Those RPF thingy should place in misc. Play instead in those residual category.
I want to see new FFN without this category.
Or simply just do sth abt that useless fandom.
09/14/2013 at 3:50 pm
I’m experiencing a bug whenever I try to upload a new image in Image Manager. It starts uploading then the site crashes. Is this a side effect of the move? It began happening yesterday; the day before that, upload worked fine.
09/14/2013 at 4:06 pm
Are you going to post a Day 3 update? It would be much appreciated.
09/14/2013 at 4:15 pm
no outages? might want to check…
09/14/2013 at 7:31 pm
That was yesterday. They haven’t updated for Day 3. I has a few outages, too.
09/14/2013 at 7:32 pm
09/14/2013 at 5:44 pm
Will we be getting RSS back?
09/14/2013 at 6:35 pm
RSS feeds coming back is something I hope for as well. That’s why I really appreciate the frequent update posts here. It’s helping me stay patient while the big stuff gets dealt with.
09/14/2013 at 8:09 pm
If you find the ‘un-rounded-off story count’ and ‘All fandoms alphabetically’ functions lying on the floor in the shadows behind your equipment as you move it, PUH-LEEZE pick ’em up, blow the dust off them, and put them back where they belong!
09/15/2013 at 12:35 am
Wholeheartedly approve of both the request and its clever phrasing.🙂
09/15/2013 at 11:40 am
LOL I second Jordanna’s words to a T!
09/14/2013 at 8:22 pm
site’s either up or down depending on the load attempt, for desktop or mobile.
09/14/2013 at 8:25 pm
Can you please put up day three????? I mean we’re having outages in and out how long is this going to last? At least put up day 3!
09/14/2013 at 8:48 pm
The fixing of the random outages would be nice.
09/15/2013 at 11:51 am
Yes… the site admins should take time out of moving to fix the random outages that they said would possibly occur because of the move. That makes a lot of sense.
The Warty Hogg
09/14/2013 at 11:05 pm
The boys have been ignoring abuse reports for YEARS. I think they created the feature to make people think they were doing something. Until they actually DO something, they are leaving themselves open to some serious lawsuits.
09/14/2013 at 11:58 pm
Agreed. Also, they need to incorporate an age check for new users when they sign up.
09/15/2013 at 12:56 am
Oh, I agree, Warty. It certainly seems that way. And the fact that we all have unanswered e-mails condemns the site in the face of a lawsuit should any of us be asked to provide a deposition.
09/15/2013 at 1:44 am
are you trying to get this site killed? don’t you get it if the site is sued it will be SHUT DOWN!!! so please no one do anything stupid like bring xing and his team to court or we can kiss this site and it’s stories goodbye. FOREVER.
09/15/2013 at 1:56 am
***I’m*** not the one breaking the law. I’m saying Xing needs to get his people to work, because if anyone whose rights HAVE been infringed decides to take the site to court, they can subpoena site members. And in the even they do that, and I’m asked to give a deposition, I’m NOT going to perjure myself.
09/15/2013 at 1:58 am
*in the event*
09/15/2013 at 8:51 am
@guest. Go tell that to the copyright infringers throughout the site. You know, like the people who copy the entirety of the Harry Potter books under the guise of a “So-and-so reads the book” “fic”. Or those who copy a movie script and just replace the character names. The thought that the site could be sued out of existence by a copyright holder doesn’t even faze them when it’s pointed out to them.
09/15/2013 at 11:58 am
@ tiquatue – To add to what you said, one of these writers has gone so far to lie about her getting permission from Rowling and her publishers and thus everyone else now thinks that they have permission. They also whine about how their creative rights and freedom are being infringed upon despite the fact they’re infringing on another writers rights by doing what they’re doing. They even bring the sites motto into it how they’re not allowed to unleash their imagination, not realizing that using another person’s work like they are is one of the farthest things from unleashing your imagination.
09/15/2013 at 2:18 am
while i agree something needs to be done about the plagiarism i want to let everyone know that taking FFN to court is a very bad idea it will definitely kill this site. and xing if you are reading this i know you guys are busy with your move and all but when you can please address everyones concerns on this issue.
09/15/2013 at 12:11 pm
I think you’re missing the fact we don’t want the site taken to court. However, this seems to be going over the heads of the rule breakers. No matter how much we tell them it can lead to the site getting sued they stick their fingers in their ear and whine about how people are being mean to them.
09/15/2013 at 4:27 am
You people need to GET LIVES.
09/15/2013 at 4:33 am
09/15/2013 at 4:34 am
what’s that supposed to mean? you want the site gone?
09/15/2013 at 12:12 pm
Let me guess? You write RTB that uses copyrighted material and are miffed that people are asking for something serious to be done about them? RTB that uses copyrighted material is against the law.
09/15/2013 at 3:31 pm
No, I don’t write copyrighted material, what an arbitrary accusation. I just think SOME of you stalk this blog like you think you’re authority figures. Hence my suggestion.
09/15/2013 at 4:07 pm
Last time I checked most of the people who bring up and discuss the issue of rule breaking also discuss other things. The others disappear quickly.
09/15/2013 at 4:20 pm
Says the person who’s wasting their time to tell people that.
09/15/2013 at 9:56 am
I was scrolling through my stories under ‘manage stories’ and I have to say it would be really handy if were able to organize our stories there. Either by allowing us to create ‘(sub)folders’ or some other kind of system. That way the list to scroll through isn’t so long when you’re looking for something specific and it makes it easier to divide stories into novels, novellas, short stories, oneshots, ficlets, drabbles etc or even by fandom or theme.
I know you can sort for word or chapter length, category (=fandom), dates, reviews, status and so on, but when you do this *all* the stories are still displayed meaning the list you have to scroll through is still long when you have a lot of stories.
Also, it could be useful for those of us who write series or collections, by simply grouping those together in one folder, especially if you have no inclination to ever create a series/collection feature to link stories together.
09/15/2013 at 10:17 am
0.0 Now THAT’s a good idea, would even almost completely eliminate the need for series, just put them in a folder😄
One thing I have to mention, though, is (since I don’t write stories) to add that to the Favourites list as well
09/15/2013 at 12:28 pm
Mind you, I don’t mind the idea of having a way to tag the stories via story type but I’m not sure how folders would work for series. On one side fandoms and type would be easy to sort by as those can be preset and people can’t add folders for those. The whole story type tag is another tag that needs to be added as well. On the other side for series there would need to be a way to limit how many folders someone can create.
09/15/2013 at 12:52 pm
My suggestion was actually more for the account area, as I’m not sure how well it would work for readers. However, it could simply be similar to how they have a collection or series on AO3 and other fanfic sites in that there’s a link to either the collection/series on the author’s profile or a link to the rest of the collection/series in the story/stories of said collection/series, making it easier to get an overview of all the stories linked together and in which order they were published.

Is there a practical reason for why fp.n and ff.n have yet to merge? They are two halves of the same side of the coin, and it makes more sense to treat both as one site. Search filters can just include “Original Fiction” and “Fan Fiction,” and that problem is solved. And of course we can have separate tabs for each author for both types of fiction.
Sorry if this suggestion has been brought up and argued to death (I wouldn’t know as I’m not very active), but it’s always annoyed me to have to keep track of two separate accounts.
09/15/2013 at 8:31 pm
In the archives, I’m not too crazy about the story summaries being linked. The whole thing is annoying. Or this only happening in Ouran High School Host Club or what?
09/15/2013 at 9:34 pm
It is sitewide, unfortunately. I agree, it is one feature that is irksome, but it was a change that was made in the last wave of upgrades before this server change.
09/16/2013 at 1:35 am
In addition to …
1).fixing the rounded-off story counts (or at least explaining the reasons for it. Considering all the protests this has stirred up, doesn’t courtesy, at least, call for it?)
2). and fixing the broken sort ‘ ALL’ alphabetically at the top of the main category pages,
I have two other items on my wish list. Neither sounds to my uninitiated mind as though it would be difficult.
3). Add a holidays/special days genre to the drop-down list. Someone just posted a request for Thanksgiving stories on a LJ FicFinders site for my favorite fandom, and I’m going to try to skim through ‘1.5K+’ stories for a few. Be easier if there was a genre that could narrow the field to Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthday, and Halloween, etc. stories. Isn’t that why we have filters?
4). Let collaborating authors receive credit for the story under their own name. Most of the co-written stories I’ve seen are under a new and different name from either author’s established one. If readers are lucky, both authors will put notes on their bio page directing them to the joint pseudonym.
There is one story that is a 6 way round robin, written by some of the early giants in this fandom. These people were long inactive, and got together in a sort of reunion. The story is under the author of chapter 1, but the other authors are only credited in the summary and authors’ notes, and too many people will never find it. Seems as if it’d be simple to make it possible for the listing to read, instead of a). Title, by Author b). Title, by Author, Author, and Author.
It’s late, and I realize I haven’t perhaps phrased things very well but I hope these points will be seriously considered.
09/16/2013 at 6:15 pm
3.) Perhaps if we want to get specific we should have a holidays tag that is only used if you’re writing a holiday tag. Otherwise it should be just “holidays/special days” as adding every holiday tag would get messy.
4.) Mind you, I would love a way to credit my co-writer outside of an authors note, particularly since he got upset because people kept thanking me for the great story forgetting there were two writers. The site admins have said one of the reasons they haven’t implemented anything as they don’t want to deal with the arguments that do occur from co writers that have a falling out.
09/22/2013 at 11:41 pm
What I was trying to suggest in #3 was a generic tag that would simply filter out & yield a selected group of stories for any and all holidays lumped together.
That way, if anyone is looking for seasonal stories, or is responding to an LJ FanFictionFinders request for Thanksgiving, Halloween, or ‘stories about such-and-such a character’s birthday’, there’d be a smaller pool to look through.
I can remember two stories for either Passover or YomKippur that I’ve never been able to put my finger on again.
…I suppose that we’d just have to leave it to each author’s discretion whether or not International Talk Like A Pirate day should be included….
09/16/2013 at 4:01 am
No service outage?
I CAN’T ACCESS MY MESSAGES.
NOR MY STORY MANAGER.
I can’t upload any of my effing work!
09/16/2013 at 4:11 am
why is it i cant log in? is the site broken or something?
09/16/2013 at 4:14 am
I started to receive notice errors every time I tried to reply or review someone. I also received the same notice when I log out and tried to log in once again.
09/16/2013 at 4:18 am
same problem here – I can’t log in; I’ve tried Internet Explorer 10 and Google Chrome, no differences – I can see the website, I can also navigate around in it and I can see my pen name, but when I click on it to get to my account area the page goes to this adress https://www.fanfiction.net/login.php but doesn’t show me anything, it goes completely blank; refreshing doesn’t help
09/16/2013 at 5:29 pm
There’s your problem right there. cut the “s” out of the “https” and tell me what happens.
09/16/2013 at 4:20 am
I’m having the same problem on Firefox. It’s probably just one of the expected outages with the updates, especially because it’s so late at night in this end of the world (where I’m pretty sure Xing operates?). Hopefully it’ll be resolved in due time.
09/16/2013 at 4:33 am
Same here. It won’t let me log into my account
Desire at gunpoint
09/16/2013 at 4:37 am
I operate on an Nintendo 3DS and it’s the same for me. I’m barred from logging in. Everytime I do. it pops up the ‘must login’ message.
09/16/2013 at 5:09 am
Those problems seems to have been fixed, but it has been replaced with no email alerts getting received. Still, I guess I prefer this new problem rather than the first one.
09/16/2013 at 6:01 pm
Still not able to follow, favorite, etc. a story. This is happening on 3 different browsers: IE, Firefox and Chrome….all of which are the most current versions.
Please Fix this.
