hello. I was wondering why i can’t seem to copy and paste the fics now. back then, i would just copy and paste the fic to a notepad, send it through bluetooth to my phone, and read the fic as a go offline. but, just a week ago when i wanted to do so again, i can;’t seem to do it anymore. sigh… so now, i can’t download them. besides, it’s disadvantageous to us who doesn;t like android phones where we could just download the fics using the official app. T_T is there anyway you could install a download option or just bring back the copy paste-option to the page?

oh yeah, i tried doing so in different laptops and browsers so i know this is something the site has made.

    please reply soon. thank you.

Hi, I wasn’t sure whether you got an answer already to your question, but I have figures a way to copy the text, even if it is a bit more time consuming. By turning on Caret Browsing in Internet Explorer you can slick to the start of the chapter, hold down ‘shift’ and scroll to the bottom of the chapter and click at the end of it while still holding down ‘shift’. This selects all the text between the two clicks. Then just Ctrl-C (copy) it and paste is where needed. I’m not sure if it works with other browsers, but that’s my way of doing it. Hope it helps!

Hi! I love all the updates so far, but I would like to make a suggestion. If we cannot disable anonymous reviews, then I think it would be a great idea to allow authors to delete signed reviews.

Also, I would very much like it if I could block someone from faving or following a story.

    Thanks! You guys rock! 🙂

As previously discussed, allowing writers to delete signed reviews would mean that some precious little flowers would delete everything that wasn’t lavish praise of their magnum opus. That would be a very bad result. Anyone posting stories on a public site must be prepared to accept adverse criticism. Genuinely abusive reviews can be reported to the admins for removal, but non-abusive concrit is a valid response to any posting, and any attempt by a writer to censor the reviews to their own stories demonstrates a lack of principle which I find quite shocking.

Besides, some readers will turn to the reviews to get an idea of whether a story is worth their while reading. Giving writers the power to delete any negative comment would be doing these readers an enormous disservice.

As for your other suggestion, why would you even want to block favourites or followers? What harm are they doing to you? I ask purely for information, because I honestly don’t understand what benefit you expect to gain from this.

@bienfait – excellent summation of the review bit.

As to blocking favorites/followers: one reason that I have seen in the past is when the user plagiarised the story in question. As FFN does not have a comprehensive deletion policy regarding plagiarists, the writer then has to see that person’s name – knowing that they stole from them – every time they view the people who have chosen to follow/favorite their story.

        10/13/2013 at 12:35 pm

That would be nice to see, authors not being allowed to delete reviews. I fully support being able to report reviews, I’ve noticed with most of my reviews never show up because they’re not stunning praises for the story. Helpful criticism only helps someone improve. There are also those authors who post “no flames” so how else are they suppose to improve.

        10/13/2013 at 2:18 pm

@ Rouge – To me that would be even more reason to allow people to still at least favorite the stories. That’s always been helpful for the cases I’ve seen over at the LJ community.

      • yemi hikari

        10/13/2013 at 2:21 pm

@ Birdyman – In other words you’re one of the people who either doesn’t have an account or doesn’t always log in. And yeah… if people were allowed to delete signed reviews a lot of the reviews I leave would be deleted. Even though some of the writers aren’t sensitive little wall flowers they do still have gut reactions when they first read a review and you have to get them to calm down.

        10/13/2013 at 3:09 pm

        @Rogue – good point about plagiarists – I hadn’t thought of that

        10/13/2013 at 4:02 pm

Don’t assume such a things. I’ve had an account since 2005. Automatic login. Doesn’t mean I only read on a computer, a phone for instance is more trouble then its worth to sign in each time. Tablet can be a pain too because its a touch screen.

    • Winterbornbree

      10/13/2013 at 1:05 pm

That’s kind of a bad idea.

If we had the option to delete signed reviews, then writers with ego problems will delete the negative reviews and such. They need to learn to suck it up (except if you have a flame, then that’s valid excuse to get it removed). Besides, I’m one of those people who reads the reviews to see if any story I’m looking at is worth my while, so, no deleting signed reviews.

And why would you want to block certain people from reading your stories? Sorry, but I view that as immature behavior.

    • yemi hikari

      10/13/2013 at 2:24 pm

As everyone else has pointed out the reasons the site admins don’t allow people to delete signed reviews is because there are people out there who would delete all negative reviews just to make their stories look good.

It would be nice if you guys would actually fix some of the issues that have occurred during previous updates. For one, it would be great if all three/four characters listed for a story in the story-overview would be visible when in-story and on the author’s profile, rather than just two characters which are more often than not alphabetically sorted and might give the impression the story is only/mostly about the first two characters (who might even be in a romantic relationship if it’s a romance genre) rather than all three/four.

Also, we’re still waiting for the hybrid feature of the old and new filters as well as the relationship/pairing feature you guys promised months ago. I know I can’t speak for everyone but considering the number of complaints about the copy-protection and language/translation feature, I don’t think it’s too much of an exaggeration for me to say that most people would probably appreciate you spending your time on fixing/completing what was promised rather than introducing unnecessary and annoying features.

Hello, I’ve been following as an author for many years in which during that time I have always wondered if it was possible for the site to add a ‘Queue Chapter’ in the manage stories area. What I mean by this is have a chapter put up on a certain date that the author chooses. For example, how Tumblr allows you to queue a post OR publish on a certain day. Queuing on Tumblr makes it post on the following day, whereas if you publish on a certain day, it is a day of your choice.

I only thought it would be a good addition due to all the authors who are busy with life and work, and are unable to post up a new chapter. This causes a reader to be let down due to it.

    • yemi hikari

      10/13/2013 at 2:32 pm

The best way to put this one is readers being let down is a fact of life.

However, there are quite a few of us who happen to have come across writers who claimed their stories were complete but never completed their stories. If such a feature were to be put into place though I suggest allowing writers to be able to view all chapters for a story whether they are already published or in the Queu when downloaded.

One of the disadvantages though is many of the people who warn and report don’t report until they see the writer has updated. While that isn’t that big of a deal when you’re talking about writers who know they’re breaking the rules it is a big deal for the writers who don’t understand them for some reason.

      • Daemon

        10/13/2013 at 10:56 pm

I’m not sure I understand what you are saying in all honesty.

I only suggested allowing a chapter be put up in some form of a queue because, not only myself, but several authors find a lack of time in being able to put up a chapter. I, personally, work hectic hours to the point that normally when I get off work, I’m in bed once again either because my shift is earlier in the morning, or I passed out from exhaustion.

Now I know there can be problems with this idea, such as spam from one person. For that, the publishing queue should be limited on how many stories or chapters are put up. I really don’t think it should be used to put up a new story though, in my personal opinion.

    • fems

      10/14/2013 at 3:30 am

Personally, I think this is a good idea. Many authors I know use an update schedule but sometimes they are unable to keep posting on the set dates, either because the story turned out longer than they’d planned and they’re going on vacation or due to unforeseen circumstances.

By allowing a story (already uploaded with at least one chapter) to have automated updates so to speak on set times, a lot of time and effort can be saved for the author and keep the readers happy with a steady supply of stories. It might be an especially handy tool for the authors who don’t upload unless their story is complete or who have rewritten an old one, because this way they can start uploading the chapters in the doc manager (and edit them if needed) and create an update schedule in their account to upload one chapter at a set time every day or on specific days of the week. They won’t have to come back every time they want to upload a chapter and go through the hassle of adding another chapter. With the “Queue chapter” they can do/set everything at once when they actually have time, like in the weekend or on a day off.

….you had better be fixing the copy paste thing…..and i agree with Fems…there are better things to be doing then messing around with odd, nonsensical bells and whistles that hinder readers more than help them…one of these days…a few of these fixes could really bite them in the butt if they aren’t careful….

Can you expand the filter categories? Search all ratings without K or K+ (leaving T and M) would be appreciated. Search forums without RPG (leaving discussions, word games etc) would be very useful.

    • yemi hikari

      10/13/2013 at 2:34 pm

We’ve discussed this before. There is no real reason for grouping the ratings together except for those under M

As for the forums it would be better if the site admins added more choices to allow people to sort. Unfortunatly the reason they likely haven’t added more is because people would create dozens of forums.

      • fems

        10/13/2013 at 3:40 pm

        In your opinion. Right?

I can totally understand that there are people who don’t want to read K or K+ stories because they’re in the mood for something darker/mature (qua theme, before everyone starts moaning about how K/K+ stories are just as good and mature) and then it’d be great if they can simply filter for it.

Personally, I don’t really mind the K/K+ stories but I would so love it if one could choose to always display all ratings (and preferably set a language too), because it’s very annoying to have to change the rating (and language) every time I open a crossover section since it doesn’t show me all the stories that are in there unless I change the rating. That also kind of defeats the purpose of listing how many stories there are in a fandom/crossover section…

      • yemi hikari

        10/13/2013 at 10:25 pm

I guess. When I am in the mood specifically for darkfic I actually go and use the search feature because I’m looking for a very particular niche to be filled rather then using filters.

    • Lynn Hollander

      10/13/2013 at 4:34 pm

      >fems: Yes, saving settings is a good idea. I shift category frequently, reading historical, fantasy, mystery and others, and have to reset the search filters with each change. Boring and slow.
Wading through RPG looking for word play/discussion/etc is also slow and boring.

      • fems

        10/13/2013 at 4:55 pm

Indeed. Wouldn’t bit be nice if you could save your standard settings in your account area for example, either in general or per fandom? Then, if you want to deviate from your regular settings you can change the filter but you would not be forced to set them every single time you go into a different fandom/crossover section.

      • Vicky (@Andromakhe)

        10/19/2013 at 6:01 pm

Yeah, this is a great idea. Would be nice to save defaults in a cookie. Hate having to change the language and ratings every time. Sometimes, I’m filtering for characters so I use the filters anyway, but at other times, it’s an extra step because I just want to see what’s on offer and only need to change the site to show English fics of all ratings.

I hope I am posting this in the correct place…

I am a relatively new author to Fanfiction. Net. I made an account about a year ago and began posting as soon as I figured out how to do so on my KindleFire. It’s not easy; it was impossible before the copy-and-paste system, even now it is tricky to explain. I have to write the chapter, add all of the paragraph signs and bold and italics where I want them by putting in these strange words in those little V-like things (yeah, I’m a writer, can you believe it?) And…. Well, anyway, I don’t mind the extra work, as long as I can post.

What I DO feel the need to complain about is that I am having a problem with the page itself. On every single page of the desktop Fanfiction Site, whether I am browsing for a new story to read or trying to answer a personal message, the page will immediately return to the very top and stay there. No amount of flicking with my finger will get it to move.

I haven’t changed a thing on Kindle, and I rarely play with the settings since I don’t know what half of it does. But lately there has been problem after problem for me and I just would like to know what I can do to fix them, if anything. Is this just a side-effect from the newest maintenance?

I can’t buy a computer, so is it at all possible for Fanfiction to make their site more Kindle/Mobile-friendly?

I had a problem with emails, as well. I didn’t receive any alerts for over a week, before I stumbled upon them in my Spam Inbox.

The Fanfiction Site actually suggests you add their address to your “contacts book”; I’m not sure how you would do that on a computer, but it was simple enough on my device. I just clicked on the name and address at the left-hand corner of the scene and it asked me if I would like this information to be added to the book.

I haven’t had any problems since. Still, I also deleted my spam box, just in case.
