The crossover feeds aren’t working correctly. When, for example, I try to get the Harry Potter/Avengers crossover feed (, it simply lists all Harry Potter crossovers (with every other crossover category; as if I’ve asked for the Harry Potter crossovers feed ( When I try to get the Dogma/Supernatural crossovers, it lists all the Dogma crossovers (

Whichever fandom is listed first in the crossovers feed, that’s the fandom that the complete list of crossovers is showing in the feed.

Any chance of getting a fix for this?

That’s fantastic. Thank you. Such a shame when things don’t go well.

OMG, I’ve tried to leave messages before and it’s never really worked.

Looks like it might today. And that makes me wonder about how to find out if my other emails have been received. Anyhow!!

Feeds are extremely useful features – thank you!

Are there any plans to change the moderation policies of this blog? I might have to give up commenting here if all that happens is that I’ll be repeatedly sent into moderation and left there. None of my comments have been outside codes of conduct. I’ve wanted to thank you for the updates in this blog and participate in conversation with other commenters, but with the strict moderation and different timezones, few of my comments are getting out of moderation.

Is it possible to allow people’s comments to be automatically approved on this blog if they have previously commented as not a troll?

    • Yemi Hikari

      11/05/2013 at 7:26 pm

I agree. It would be nice to have my comments not have to go through moderation, particularly since I had to take the time to sign up with a word press account only to have the whole anonymous thing be back pedaled a few days later. It is frustrating.

Ok, it looks like we’re on our way back to this. It looks like it’s incomplete however. The RSS feeds seem to be limited to category, rating, and language. The old RSS had EVERY filter facet (status, word count, genres, characters, world). Is this the final RSS, or are the extended RSSes returning?

Any idea when feeds for filtered searches might be back? (e.g. I don’t want the whole firehose of all Harry Potter stories, I want only ones containing a certain character)

    • Nicky DiPace

      11/06/2013 at 5:44 pm

Yes I agree. Having feeds for filtered searches that include one or more characters would be great. Is there a chance of that happening so I can get feeds with only the pairings I want to see?

      • Nicky DiPace

        11/06/2013 at 6:04 pm

Can you add email alerts as one of the ways you can subscribe to the feeds? You know how you have My Yahoo, Outlook and Live Bookmarks already? Can you somehow add email alerts (like when you subscribe to an author or a story) to that list?

    • chixon

      11/13/2013 at 10:05 am

I love the “firehose” analogy. I feel exactly the same. All I want is a sip from the fountain. The feed does me no good if it’s at such a general setting. I don’t have time (or patience) to scan through all the stories looking for the ones I want to read. If I did, I would just go to the website. So I don’t plan on using the feeds until they are applied to individual searches.

The rss-feeds are different from the ones you used to have.
cid1=224 appears to be the Harry Potter Fandom(category ID 1), r10(rating) means that I want to see all stories, no matter the rating.
lan1(language 1) is English as language, and s1(sorting) is about the order the stories are displayed..
This feed simply displays all stories in English, no matter what other search options I have chosen(e.g. c1=1 – character 1 = Harry Potter).

    old one:
category & rating are the same, but here I also have two characters (1=Harry Potter, 2784=Susan Bones) as well as some other options I don’t know anymore. Probably status (whether a story is completed), the genre etc.
When I compare the new feed to the options of the old one, this is a really huge step backwards. Please reimplement the specific search options into the feeds.
    Thank you.

    • Yemi Hikari

      11/05/2013 at 7:27 pm

I don’t think they will be able to match up with the old ones for the same reason the old links wouldn’t match up when they changed up the filter system.

  7. Serifool

    11/05/2013 at 6:57 pm

Some filters such as story length are also not working on the feeds.

    11/05/2013 at 7:05 pm

I’m actually having a problem with the fonts, story spacing, and story width options. I click on them, but the options themselves do not appear.

Is there any way to fix this?

    • xraiderv1

      11/06/2013 at 10:49 pm

assuming you’ve not done this already Rae…clear your cache, cookies, etc, and close, then reload your browser.

  9. bob

    11/05/2013 at 7:59 pm

Story length is one that I use to filter a lot. I would really like it if this was working. Also I don’t know if it was intentional but the RSS feeds no longer show 200 items at a time like they used too.

  10. Kathrine

    11/06/2013 at 5:07 pm

What happened to the Crossover, Community, and Forum numbers? The amount of them is no longer showing on the main fandom I click on. Can you please restore this.

  11. PCHeintz72

    11/06/2013 at 6:20 pm

Hurray, I’ve missed my category feeds immensely these last 4 months. I’ll have to experiment to reset them up, but I figured they would be changing format…

A question though, are the feeds going to be extended to the story level? I’ve been praying for this ability for the last 7+ years

That will make it possible for a person to monitor individual stories and get updates on them much like is possible through the email alert system.

    11/06/2013 at 7:17 pm

I have a request for the site admins. The reason I’m making the request I’m making is because there are a lot of English forums being posted under non-English languages. The request runs like this. Under the forum rules could you possible add a line about how forums should be categorized under the correct language? I think it would help people out at least a bit. Thanks.

    11/06/2013 at 8:42 pm

rss used to “present” the last 50 entries not 25. Any chance of presenting more stories than 25. I do appreciate what we have because it’s easier to read, but more entries would be nice. especially as they don’t update that often.

    • Cyntalan

      11/07/2013 at 7:28 pm

Actually, I recall it being 200 entries before.

25 is fine for low-update categories and all, but there are several that get well over 25 in a given day updated. Admittedly, 200 was overkill, but that still meant you could let your RSS feed refresh once a day and not have a problem. As it is, it’d be safer to have it refresh at least once every other hour depending on the feed, else you’re likely to miss something, especially right now considering the feeds are so broad. Reintroduction of the filters may lighten this burden greatly, but it’d still be better to have the RSS capped somewhere between 80 and 100.

My filter settings will not stay set. I set the rating for all and it keeps going back to K-T.

  17. Elric

    11/06/2013 at 11:40 pm

I don’t have many complaints about
My only complaint would be the removal of the feature that allows an author to remove anonymous reviews. I wish that feature had never been removed… Can this be addressed?

    • A.J. Goode

      11/08/2013 at 1:24 pm

Elric, I believe authors ARE able to delete anonymous reviews. Click on “Reviews”, then “Remove Reviews” and go through your stories until you have removed any anonymous reviews you don’t like.

    • Aaron Hall (@SolidOshawott)

      11/09/2013 at 1:28 pm

You can still remove anon reviews, you just have to wait 36 hours.

      • Yemi Hikari

        11/12/2013 at 1:40 am

You don’t have to wait thirty-six hours. The three day waiting time is how long an anonymous review will stay in the moderation area before it appears on your story. Said moderation area allows you to approve and disprove reviews five at a time and you can select both at the same time.

    • ShikiKira

      11/09/2013 at 4:34 pm

You can still remove anonymous reviews. You just can’t prevent them from reviewing.

    • Leon Scott Kennedy (@LeonScottKenny)

      11/11/2013 at 10:47 am

Can’t such thing be done from here? –

Also – (“You can still remove guest reviews using the ‘Remove Reviews’ feature.”)

I suppose guest reviews would count as anonymous.

This is a test to see if my posts are getting out of moderation – last few have not and I haven’t posted anything unusual – I did give a negative review to someone about inappropriate subject matter for supposedly non-m story, which was actually ma in it’s very nature . . .

    • konarciq

      11/09/2013 at 7:11 am

Apparently yours are. Mine (from several days ago in this same thread) is still awaiting moderation. ??? Did I say something wrong perhaps?

    • cathy massey

      11/10/2013 at 6:04 pm

You probably know it by now, but it looks as though you comment’s been released. I can read that just fine.

It’s evidently not from anything you’ve done. Well up this page, one of the posters complaining about this is someone who knows the rules and follows them and posts frequently here.

I don’t think I’ve done anything outside the lines either, but I’ve got comments that have been waiting for the past 8 or 9 days.

Between all the changes that have not worked out well for smaller-fandom readers, and now the moderation holds, I haven’t been dropping by nearly as often lately.

Here I am getting all excited to have feeds back until i find out it doesn’t work with characters. So new feeds are basically useless.

  22. xraiderv1

    11/08/2013 at 4:27 pm

thanks for bringing back the rss feeds.

  23. Zidane

    11/08/2013 at 5:09 pm

Sorry but I do not understand why you are happy for the feeds. For me these feeds are useless.

I used to have 7 feeds of the categories (+ chars, length, language and complete-status filters) which I reed most often. Then out of nowhere they do not work (without throwing an error so the feed reader does not show me that the feeds are not working any more)
So as long as the feeds are not completely back online (including filters) I can not use them like before. Also I would prefer to get more than 25 stories out of the feed to get the stories that I have missed out because of the not working feeds…

So please restore the feed function to what it once was

How come the number of crossovers is no longer visible on the page of the main fandom? That was a nice indication if you needed to check there. Now you know nothing and have to check there every time for something new (if you remember to do so), even though it’s a fairly quiet page.

Numbers of forums and communities aren’t that important, I think. But leaving out the number of crossovers ain’t helping to get readers to those stories, I think…

  25. John Hesh

    11/09/2013 at 4:33 pm

Your new search system is the worst I’ve seen on any site that’s ever been established on the net!

Writers are taking advantage of it by adding additional main characters that aren’t really important to the story. As an example in the Naruto section; let’s say I want to search for a favorite shipping pair Naruto/Hinata story. I get those results plus all the others that aren’t actually Naruto/Hinata due to authors adding those extra main characters to leech the Naruto/Hinata search results. I’ve read some author notes that blatantly admit to doing it.

It’s needs to go back to just two main characters being allowed and not four. I won’t be visiting your site anymore and go to the other fanfic sites that are on the net instead.

    • Yemi Hikari

      11/12/2013 at 1:36 am

Please complain to the writers who are misusing the new filter system. It’s not the admins fault they are using it incorrectly. There are a lot of people who feel that having two main characters let certain types of fanfic have an unfair advantage.

    11/09/2013 at 7:30 pm

It’s great that you guys are doing some fix ups, but would it be possible to go through the reports and make some more dents in them? Not a whole lot, but maybe three stories a day to be looked at and dealt with? Just as a starter?

  27. Samm

    11/10/2013 at 6:21 pm

So my request/question is not about Atom/RSS feeds, but since this is your most recent post I will post it here.
I have a problem concerning the ‘regular site’ button when you are on the mobile fanfiction site.
I prefer the regular site but I am unable to get to the regular site. Was this done deliberately? I hope not and if its not could you please fix it. It will only load the mobile version while it used to do both. I would really appreciate it!

Hey, is anyone else having the chapter select, font, font size, story width, and spacing options in the story area? It’s like the whole page below the summary is scrambled. I’m on the latest firefox.

  29. Yemi Hikari

    11/10/2013 at 11:30 pm

I noticed that you moved the hide and show bio to the middle of the page instead of on the far right. I actually like the change.

When are you going to bring back the ad blocker? Very annoying all those ads.

    • Yemi Hikari

      11/12/2013 at 1:32 am

They’re probably not going to bring it back as ads is how they get their revenue to run the site.

  31. Birdymain (@Birdymain)

    11/11/2013 at 1:53 am

Looking at a story, I see the tools have been moved to the middle underneath the summary. Bit weird but there’s a problem. When you switch to a darker screen the ” A+ A- ” go invisible because the box they are in is white and the text turns white.

  32. Rere

    11/11/2013 at 9:20 am

Hey you seem like an admin or some sort so just one question/suggestion you guys should make an app for us for fanfiction where you dowload the stories so you can read them without wifi/internet connection and if your not an admin can you try to get this message out caaue i dont know how

    • Yemi Hikari

      11/12/2013 at 1:31 am

If the site admins add in such an app they would need to make it so the writers can choose whether or not their stories are available for download. A blog or two ago people brought up the fact they didn’t like the fact downloads were being made of their stories without their permission on another site.

      • Jo Bellesephine

        11/12/2013 at 3:43 am

I would not like my stories used by others that way. Especially when the reader is not decent enough to leave a review.

How hard is it to leave a review? I leave reviews Reviews are valuable to writers. How do we know if our stories are being downloaded on other sites?

No body should ship pirating, ’cause that’s what it sound like to me.
Would this be serious breeching of copyright laws, that we don’t have control or ownership over our original canon inspiration? But don’t we have ownership over our imaginations?

I think the lines are becoming very smudged. And we might get smudged out.

Does profanity filter REALLY need to be any more sensitive? “Blew” and “blow” keep getting beeped out when I’m talking about how windy it is. I… guess I understand why this particular verb would be targeted, but… Seriously. :/

    • Jo Bellesephine

      11/12/2013 at 3:55 am

I had a quality story, that used absolute correct punctuation symbols.

So there were commas, talking marks, plus signs, which are included in math, exclamation marks, questions marks, backslashes, because they break up items. The story was indepth.

Guess what happened after I check it, it was fine and then uploaded it?

Because I check my final production, after uploading, I went to my story, and have you guessed what had happened?

The majority had been deleted and squashed together as very stupid looking information.

Looking at my original story, through computer goggles, my story came over as a internet web site address. Even though I had significant spacing, to break up as sentences.

After a little mortification adjustments, some story went up. Read by lots, must have been enjoyed because it was read by so many more. Guess how many reviews it got?

And if we’re aloud to promote ourselves on fanfic and ficpr with other users, on their pm on this site, why can’t we include the address to link them? Which doesn’t make a problem, if it is turned into a data file.

Oh, maybe I could get a programming job. Add that to my author and beta job. But I’ll have to learn something other than Gleek. (Okay that was a little tongue in cheek. A little Glee humour.)

What’s with the round avatars? Why hasn’t there been some kind of announcement made about them? I, for one, prefer my very square avatar just the way it is, tyvm.

    • RK

      11/11/2013 at 11:29 pm

Same here! I really wish the avatars would go back to being square on the review pages. The circles look ridiculous!

      • Yemi Hikari

        11/12/2013 at 7:02 pm

The circles are driving me nuts. I don’t know of any other sites that have circle shaped avatars.

    • Yemi Hikari

      11/12/2013 at 1:29 am

I’m lucky because my current avatar looks nice in a circle but not all avatars are going to look good cropped into a circle.

      • shyfoxling

        11/14/2013 at 2:16 pm

Google+ crops to a circle in some displays too. I don’t like it there either.

    11/12/2013 at 4:36 pm

Re: Being able to share stories and our identities with Twitter, Face book, Google plus. Especially with regards to Google plus and their circles.

With the changes that have taken place, does that seriously mean that our (how do I word this right) anonymity and experience of being (how do I word this) Super Hero No Body Really Knows Who we are status has been pulverized down?

There are a lot of writers who need to and want to remain anonymous in reality. They feel comfy writing from their hearts and hiding from the people in their life, what they write about. Hence we have avatars and pen names. But from what I’m looking at, it seems to be non existent now.

I was in my gmail location and saw that fan fiction seems to be interlinked with my google plus experience.

I don’t see how to ask you guyz this question another way. If there is, please let me know?

    11/17/2013 at 10:33 pm

I’m sorry, but this is my opinion, to which I have a right. And I’m trying to express it politely. But on the Fire and Ice Archive, we have no “profanity filter.” On FIA, we take stories of any rating. We’re not interested in treating adults like small children. Actually, now that I’m head admin, *I* am not interested. The further these “filters” go, the more adults ffnet will lose. Have fun with the thirteen-year-old fangirls– I have no interest in them at all, and I don’t care if they ever return to the D/G fandom. Intelligent adults are the future of fandom (including 13 yo’s who are serious about writing!”
