Forum Posting Time and Timezones

12 Nov

Forum posts/threads will now display the proper time based on your actual timezone. Previously, forum post times are displayed in US PST time only which can result in some confusion due to different time zones.

Note the forums are getting this auto-timezone feature first but once we iron out any imperfections, this feature will be activated everywhere where time or date is displayed.

  • Forum topic/thread time-stamps will now display correct time based on user’s timezone.

So we can see up 24 posts labeled 1201AM? or will each post carry the time zone abbreviation of the poster? of the viewer? of the forum founder? And how will these 1201AM posts be ranked in the forum?

No. Each clock will adjust to each persons time zone clock.

Just spotted something. The line below the summary on a story page is actually passing through the bottom of the cover image. Small matter, but ugly. Can you adjust the spacing so this doesn’t happen?

In case it’s my browser, I’m currently on IE10, Windows 7.

While I personally don’t use the forums that much, this change will easily make my next few visits much easier!

I had already gotten used to calculating the time 2 hours back. Though this is probably really helpful for international users.

Not forum-related and didn’t know where else to post, but another change that might not have been necessary.

This – – was the old style on dates when a fic was published and updated by US format.

This – – is the new style on dates when a fic was published and updated.

    What’s with THAT change?

Year is not displayed if it’s in the current year.

Still doesn’t make sense on why the full date isn’t displayed, in spite of current year. Documents of various types – legal, medical reports, online news articles, magazine articles – still have the full date. Even books will at least have a month and year it’s published in. Granted, the number format of mm/dd/yyyy used might confuse others used to seeing dd/mm/yyyy in their home countries.

I’m just not seeing the logic.

It’s because people should know what year they’re in.

Yet, there are stories where people truly have no idea what year (or time, place, what-have-you) they’re in, despite being repeatedly told by other people.

I’m asking “What is the logic behind the date’s format changing?”

About this update, when I post on a forum, it says I posted 59 minutes ago instead of seconds ago. I’m using my phone, so that might be it, the mobile site I mean

of course like your website however you need to check the spelling on quite a few of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling issues and I in finding it very bothersome to inform the reality on the other hand I’ll definitely come back again.
