Login issues and moving forward

A cascading issue which resulted in login area problems for the last day has been resolved.

We are currently reviewing all of our network, hardware, and software infrastructure to make sure that moving forward, these type of errors are not only fixed at their roots but add preventive measure to ensure they do not repeat.

There are literally thousands of individual parts that make up the eco-system that powers the site and we will spend the next few weeks upgrading every single area to ensure our users get the best experience.

    Thank you so much! I do understand the extent of website complications and I am happy that you have resolved them so quickly. (Is this problem related to the one we experienced in the previous week, when NO STATS were logged on the stat history? Will those stats be restored as well?)
    Either way, your efforts are most appreciated!!!

      Yes. It is related. Most of the stats should be recovering slowly but some stats are lost. We are revamping the stats gathering system right now and hope to have it ready next week to avoid this problem in the future.

    It would ease the frustration among users if you were more active in keeping us informed about situations like this latest one. A tweet to let us know you’re aware of an issue and a progress report from time to time would be helpful. You have Twitter. Please use it.

      Please, please communicate with us! For many of us FP and FFN are significant parts of our lives. Show some respect for that. Show us that you care about the community that exists on your sites.

    Thanks to everyone who maintains this site. I work for a software company and I know what a pain it is when things fail. In the future, a simple note on the FF blog that things are not working properly and that the problem is being addressed would save everyone a lot of time and frustration. Thank you.

    Thank you very much for clearly working so hard to get the site back up and running. However I must agree with other comments about keeping site users informed. There is this blog, Twitter, the Facebook site, and the frontpage of the site itself. People get frustrated when they don’t know what is going on….

    Empathist said it. Technical problems happen and we all understand that, but a tweet stating “we know and we’re working on it” would definitely help keep the users at ease.

    I still thank you for maintaining the site, and huge thanks for the mobile app, it’s absolutely perfect. 🙂

    Thank you very much for the clarification … but even today we can see that the statistics do not work well. Only a small part of all entries being made is reflected … I tested it.
    Thank you, would highly its efforts to solve these problems and I hope we can recover all the stats in the coming days.

    I hadn’t noticed anything wrong. ^_^” But some people I’d talked to today mentioned the site being ‘back’.

    …There’s been this thing happening to me for awhile, which, I wonder if it’s an ff.net issue or not. When I have several tabs opened for different fics I’m reading, my computer starts messing up. Where IE suddenly goes very slowly and/or freezes up. Could it be something about the ads?
    There’s also been a few ads that would scroll me down to the bottom of a chapter before I finish reading.
